No it isn't. The manufacturer recommended interval is typically BS but as mentioned, theres no sure fire accurate way to tell. If you're that paranoid about it, changing it too soon is better than changing it too late.

the Castrol 0w-30 did have a green tint in it. My latest oil change had 3 bottles with tint and 2 newer bottles without tint - or at least not much tint. Same UPC and 'made in germany' on the lable. the newer bottles also were noted to meet an extra or newer MB oil standard.

I get the oil here in Fort Worth, TX at some autozones. Not all autozones here carry it. It doesn't last long when it's in stock.

Manufacture recommended is for regular oil I guess... if using Mobile 1, then you can go higher mileage with it.

The rep must be wanting you to buy more from them and let them make more money.

A good way is to look at the oil via the dipstick every so often to see how clean the oil is, if it looks dirty then change it.

Oil change intervals....?

Finally someone that uses his brain! If you use synthentic oil change it every
4K miles or when it looks dirty. If you don't care how your G35 runs it doesn't
matter when you change it, sell it to someone that does care....

since this is a 07+ thread, and if you care about warranty then you HAVE to change your oil at the stated intervals. If not warranty bye bye for your engine at least if there are issues down the road.

I just converted to synthetic but then I had about 74000 miles.

Looked around, local tires plus uses Kendall and was about $45 (was $39 with paper ad). Then I found out Wal-Mart (yes Wal-Mart) had $49.99 and uses Mobile 1 synthetic. Got it changed in Wal-mart last Sunday. They don't take appointments so was tough to kill 90 minutes inside Walmart supercenter. Going through the threads here, Mobile 1 was more favourable and couple of my friends also recommended it.

I plan to go for about 7000 miles between changes. I can feel the car is running much smoother now. The tech said go for 5000-6000 miles but not more than 7000-8000 miles.

I am switching to synthetic at my 15k service. I'm going with Royal Purple 5w-30 and a Purolator Pure One filter. I'm changing over to the schedule 2 service intervals 6mo/7,500 miles.

RP claims that going full synthetic, motor, tranny, and differential; reduces friction and increases HP, they claim roughly 5-10 whp. Couple of videos with before and after dyno runs to prove it. My service guy told me that Nissan already uses a synthetic tranny fluid. Not sure about the differential, but I'll probably change it out to synthetic at 30k.

Here's a link to the videos. May be just all hype, you be the judge.

I know RP is expensive, over $7 a quart.
