Which Oil ??? whats with the G service interval?
Okay so I've allways used synthetic in my cars as I always beleived that they offered better breakdown protection etc. etc.
So the first two oil changes in my G I used regular oil as I've been told its better for the break in process. For my third oil change I asked to switch to synthetic and the infiniti dealership gladly did so (and charged me an extra $50)
so this week I switched dealerships to one closer to my house (it was previously being rebuilt) and I asked for synthetic. They told me I dont need it and put in semi-synthetic.
so my question which do i use?
I know that the G has a horribly short service interval (every 6000km ~4500miles) compared to say audi or volvo which is 15,000 km (~8500 miles) so does that mean we get no benefit from using a synthetic or is the service rep just not well informed. Also i live in ontario which has cold winters and I also thought synthetics had much better charachteristics in the cold?
also off topic but, why is the G service interval so short ????? every 2 or 3 months im in the shop.

Which oil and how often....?
You have the option of checking the manual, but synthentic oil is good for
your car regardless of what climate you live in. If you go with a good synthentic like Mobil 1 you should change it every 4K miles. If you don't care
about your car it really doesn't matter (like the service writer says) what
you use.

Synthetic oil should last you a good 7000-7500k miles before oil change. I think 4k is way too soon and is usually the time period for conventional oil and not synthetic. However, if you are in the following category, you may need to shorten that interval: lot of stop/go traffic, aggressive driving, cold climates, long trips, etc

Used Mobil 1 in my WRX, driven hard, changed every 7500 mi. At 90k mi. when I sold it, I didnt use more than 1/2 qt. of oil between changes.
Use Mobil 1 in my G, change it every 7500 mi. With 20 k miles is uses zero oil between changes. I think changing synthetics sooner is a waste of money and natural resources, although this is great for profits of those whose best interests lie in convincing the public they need to change oil every 3000 mi. BTW a 5 qt bottle of 5W30 Mobil 1 is usually about $20 at Wal Mart.
The Owners manual specifies changes every 7500 mi. under normal driving conditions even with dino oil, but I would have trouble trusting dino oil after about 5k.

I started using castrol synthetic after my first change and have been doing it myself. I change at about 4000, but I think I may change to 7500. My wifes Mini Cooper which has free service from BMW for the first 50000 miles, only changes the oil around every 10-15k depending on the type of driving the computer determines she does. If the dealership pays for it , they say a much longer time period. If you pay for it , they get you with a shorter time between changes.
