Turning off AWD drive on 2008 g35xS

Hey whats up guys. I just got the car I think I've got most of the tech figured out. Ive heard a few times you can turn off the AWD to make the car essentially RWD when the car is in park. Anyone know how?

Yeah... pull the front shafts!

The car is always going to be AWD from 0-12 mph.
After that, it's RWD and only engadges the AWD when needed.

Turn Snow Mode and VDC "Off"... that's the closest you're gonna come to RWD.

Left side of the steering column... on the dash, just above your left knee.
It's over with the trunk release button and the button to turn of the Adaptive Headlights.

you only want to do that when you are stuck or something. I suggest never turning it off when driving normally.

I don't think there's a definite way to turn it off 100%, or at least not like the older models where you could just pull a fuse. If there's a fuse to disable it, it's probably in the IPDM, but I haven't seen anything in the service manual for it.

But like people said, the car is RWD-biased and 100% RWD after 12mph, so there shouldn't be a need for you to disable it.

Although I agree that it is beter left On, the ability to shut it off is not for when you're stuck.
VDC kicks in quite a bit... maybe even more than most people realize.
If you're playing and want the most from the car, turn it Off.

I've also read that previous G owners have learned that turning off the VDC prolongs the car's brakes, since VDC will apply them whenever it deems necessary.

I leave mine On most of the time, but I do notice the difference in the car when it's Off and enjoy turning it off from time to time. I'm sure to pay more attention to what I'm doing when it's Off, but the car has more spirit when the VDC is not engadged.

"Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC): VDC compares the driver's input to the vehicle's response while cornering. By selectively braking individual wheels and/or reducing engine output, VDC can help the driver maintain control of the vehicle."

I would not turn this feature off. There have been many posts in here about guys doing some pretty serious damage to their G's when 'testing' what the car can do with the VDC turned off. To each his own but remember be safe, we are not the only drivers/people on the road.

I wish i could have a switch or something to disable the awd system,,, ya know, so i could do donuts and stuff on blacktop, as well as snow and ice... i have allready tried pulling the fuse,, and the awd system still works as normal.... except for alot of extra lights on in the dash...lol

Sometimes VDC scares the **** out of me and poses more danger. When the car is sliding, you'd expect it to send up somewhere but the car just starts jerking and you don't know what will happen. It has happened to me and I was terrified.

how does the VDC work with the AWD system... it seems as though the VDC kicks in before the AWD system...

here is a senerio:

if my back tires loose traction with VDC On, which is done first: shifting torque to the front wheels with the AWD system, or brakes/engine power reduction with VDC?

if you want to do donuts get a RWD, the point of an AWD is for traction to put all 280hp to the ground. (the most i have got the g35x to do it spin the front tires for a second or two)

Unlike the 1st Gen G35x there is no fuse, relay ect.. I've tried and all I get is a car that doesn't start, just makes a tick sound when you press the button With the VDC off the car has enough power to do donuts, although I doubt it was designed to do that lol but can't say I haven’t done it with the snow mode on and vdc off you can do down the road sideways, step out the rear then turn the wheel to the left and hold the gas. However hitting a curb would suck all that aluminum components $$$... I always drive with the vdc on.. Just my 0.2 cents..
