Break-in Oil Additives?

From what I can tell, Infiniti does not put special additives into the factory fill of oil, is that correct? Can someone confirm what I just said? If there is no special additive, I plan on changing the oil at 1000 miles to synthetic..

There is no special additives in the oil. I would advise against changing to synthetic until around 10k. VQ engines continue to show were through oil analysis for quite some time. If you do change to synthetic don't do extended drain intervals past 5k until oil analysis shows wear metals died down.

I drive roughly 8K-10K a year so exceeding the 5K OCI will be very difficult for me as I change the oil no later than every 6 months.....

Also, is there any particular oil that is shown to be consistently bad for the VQ motor? I am planning on going with M1 5w-30 EP....

my dealer gave me 5 free oil changes for 1 year...he said to come in around 1200 to change because they use a "break in" oil in the beginning

1K switch to synthetic is too fast imo. Use semi-synthetic and change to full synthetic at 10K. My $.02

Your best bet is to head over to either bobistheoilguy.com or forums.maxima.org. The Maxima website has a very nice database of just about every oil on the market with the VQ engine. They also have tranny fluid analysis. You shouldn't have any problems at all only going 8-10k. Amsoil is better than Mobil 1 EP according to used oil analysis, but if your only going 8-10k, Mobil 1 EP will be just fine. You may be able to get Amsoil for a tad cheaper. Talkinghorse on the maxima forums sells Amsoil at dealer cost. I would do regular oil until your 8k change and then do either Mobil 1 EP or Amsoil and change the oil every year. You may consider changing the oil filter out at 6 months and adding 1/4 to 1/2 quart of oil. Mobil 1 filters, K&N filters and Amsoil filters are phenominal. Mobil 1 and K&N filters are made by Champion Labs and their makup is almost identical. The Amsoil filters are alot more expensive for our cars even at dealer cost.
