G35S6MT Oil Consumption
G35S6MT Oil Consumption
Has anyone else experienced somewhat elevated oil consumption? I'm burning a bit more than 1/2 qt every 3,000 miles. At my 7500 mile service I informed the dealer who checked for leaks and found none. Nothing under my car in the garage either. At this latest 11,200 service, the car was again checked for leaks and again nothing found.
The service manager says this is not unusual because, he states, some oil stays in the engine and doesn't drain completely. Coming from a Passat VR6, which I was advised to run a 1/2 qt low and burnt about a qt or more every 3,000 miles, I'm willing to accept this and not worry.
But now I'm concerned about over filling when I top it off. I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to oil levels and tire pressure, both of which I check every other gasoline fill up.

I haven't had any oil issues. I have 11k on my car. Im also running mobile one synthetic.
#1) email, call the dealer and report the problem. Some how document all your communication. In case it becomes an issue down the road, you can prove you told them about it a long time ago while it is still covered.
#2) have them do a compression test on each cylinder. An engine will burn oil if the rings are burnt out. A compression test is something you do on an older engine, but it also can be used to test for problems on newer engines
#3) change ur oil type, what kind of oil are you using?
#4) document every thing, again. To show u did the proper maintenance and to prove u told the dealer about the problem.
Engines burn oil because of 3 things, the oil is old and breaking down, a design flaw in the engine, (what was the case in the older vqde motors) or some thing is wrong with the engine.
No one has reported and oil issues with the new HR motors as of yet. And u change ur oil on schedule. so im thinking it’s the 3rd reason. so cover you *** with paperwork showing you did u part on maintenance. Keep driving it, there is not much you can do until the dealer finds a problem, or the engine goes caput and gets fixed under warranty
good luck, post ur findins and results

None here either, and today at B.I.R. put on about 80 miles on the 3 mile road course,, litterly wrung the cars neck!!!! It did not use a drop, going or coming back either.. Mine is an X also,,, I was VERY hard on drivetrain today......
Thanks for your input, especially snowcrossmxz. I have documented my complaint about oil consumption and, as I stated above, had the service manager check it out twice--at 7500 and again at 11,250-- both times my complaint is indicated on the work order. So I am covered. I doubt it's the brand or type of oil as I've accepted the dino oil provided by Infiniti.
I had intended to switch to Amsoil synthetic, but the consumption issue makes me hesitate. I doubt that synthetic would improve the consumption, most likely make it worse
