Post Throttle bodies...

On ALL 07&08 G 35's the TB's are heated right? Meaning 205- 210* coolant is warming them in the winter, good thing, but also in the summer, I think a bad thing,, so why can't we, or would any experienced techs on here give there opinion on shutting off the hot water in summer, could it be done? would it be to hard with twin drive by wire TB's?? wouldn't our motors run better in anything over say 50* with non- heated intakes?? What do you guys think??.....

I have an 06 but when I bought my MREV and spacer it came with a shutoff valve for the TB coolant hose. It's not complex, just two pipe thread nipples, teflon tape, a couple of hose clamps, and a shut off valve.

Yes Motordyne, I was gonna buy there stuff, but they don't have anything yet for the twin intakes on the 07-08's thats why i was wondering if this mod could be done ourselves, without any intake spacers and such......

you should be able to do it w/o a spacer mod. Just find the ID of your coolant hose(s) and buy the appropriate fittings from your local hardware store. They should also have shut off valves too. FYI, you won't realize any gains from this. It's so hot under our hoods already the TB is going to get hot...especially when it's 90°+F outside

The car will have an erratic idle in cold weather if you do this and no noticeable gain in the summer.

Yes,, if you don't open the coolant lines back up in colder weather, i dunno,, I am pretty sure the TB's would NOT get that hot if this could be done,, it just seems like its pre-heating the air the cars breathe.... good in winter, bad in summer. thanks for the responses.. regards....

Think about the cooling effect of an intercooler or a radiator. They have tubes that split the air/water into multiple channels to achieve cooling. Throttle bodies have no tubes or fins. The air going through the tb isn't there or in enough contact to be heated. Not to mention the intake manifold gets hot and heat transfers through metal. The tb's will be hot anyway after a few minutes.

Now, if you are building a drag car and are looking to eek out that last .1hp then yes you would want to bypass the coolant lines to the tb. On my 4g63, only the lower portion of the tb which contains the IAC is heated. Its a drag car and I left the lines intact.

our manifold is a plastic mold. I did the coolant bypass on my sentra ser specv after i juiced(then eventually boosted it). just to help qwell heating up the charged air anymore. that along with a intake manifold thermal spacer, and pure water/chemical mix in the radiator. It stayed 15 degrees cooler than stock, even with the boost.

I just took the stock coolant line to the TB, and routed it to the coolant return line from the TB. to loop the cooling feed and return lines and bypass the TB. then took the TB return coolant line, and just looped it to the TB coolant feed line. To close up and loop the actual TB coolant intake/outlet.

it worked great. I had actually pondered about doing this a while back, but never investigated further. After reading this, i am interested again and just might open up the good ol' factory service manual to plan.
