Tilt Steering Wheel Colum slight movement, Please help.
My 2008 G35 Journey has the premium Package which has the automatic adjusting tilt steering wheel upon start up. When I start the car the steering wheel tilts down to my preset postion. Once I put my hands on the steering wheel with a slight amount of pressure the steering has a bit of play and moves down a bit again, I would say about 2/16" of an inch. so at first I didn't think anything of it but it does it everytime I adjust the steering wheel to a different tilt height and will move down again another bit down with a light natural holding of the wheel.
Does anyone else have this problem? I have an appointment for next Wednesday to take it in for this problem.
Any ideas or know what it could be?
Thanks.

I had the same thing. I took it in and after close inspection by the Infiniti service dept. Nissan/Infiniti instructed them to replace the entire steering column, which they did. I still occasionally notice a little bit of movement although perhaps not as much as in the original column.
I have come to the conclusion that it is first adjusting to a position you/we have saved which is not quite where the column needs to be in order to be in a ‘locked’ position, so it moves a little until it finds the nearest locking position.
Try this - the next time the steering column 'drops' a little put the car in park and reset your seating position memory. See if it happens again after trying this.
I would say get it checked out in case it’s something different than mine but most likely it’s the same thing. It is a fairly common issue and there have been a few threads on the subject already.
Good luck…hope it’s nothing serious
