Anyone try the HTC Diamond with the G35/nav
Hi Everyone:
Have any of you tried the HTC Diamond cell phone with the '07 or '08 G35 with navi? If so, please could you comment on how well it works if it does at all?
Thanks a lot

It is a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone, but I've had good success with WM phones and bluetooth overall, and so so with the G35. My current phone is Moto !9h and it works very well with our bluetooth....Thanks a lot

Yeah, the Touch Pro looks ideal, although it's a little thick based on the videos I've seen. Still, I don't like the touch based keyboards, so it could be worth the wait. I've had enough problems with phones in the G though that I'm nervous about getting either one of them unless I can return them if the bluetooth doesn't work.

+1 on the Touch Pro
Thats what I'm getting from Sprint
I heard the Verizon/ATT version will be crippled to a extent.
No GPS and slower CPU speed.
The reg Diamond has 4G built in of memory but no expansion slot.

So I played around with the GSM version of the Diamond today (long story on how I got hold of one) for about 2 hours with my own SIM in the unit, my own email, etc. I currently use the Motorola Q9h, and I love it, but I guess the idea of having that big, high res screen and the browser with the iPhone like capabilities was appealing to me.
However, I have to say that I came away very unimpressed. I guess I really need a real keyboard for one thing. I had so many typos while typing, even with TouchFlo 3D's suggestions for words, etc. It drove me nuts frankly. The iPhone is also not perfect in this regard, and I found typing on that easier, but not great. I wasn't all that impressed with TouchFlo 3D. I was more impressed with the original TouchFlo. It's kind of ironic that TouchFlo v1 had a 3d cube for the apps, while TouchFlo 3D seems to not have that cube look.
Also, unlike the iPhone, not all of the apps can make use of the various gestures that are possible. I was left with the view that if I do go for one of these, it would be the Pro - ie. I have to have a keyboard, but frankly, even with a keyboard, I'm fairly underwhelmed. I'm not sure that this would be a better phone than my Q9h with Opera Mini.
Having said that, checking with Expansys and mobilecityonline.com, the Pro on GSM/AT&T frequencies unlocked will cost $850, and will NOT have 3G! The regular Diamond will cost $650 and will have 3G, but of course I'm no longer interested in that one. I assume that the prices will be significantly lower when this comes out on AT&T's network a while from now, but I won't be eligible for an upgrade yet, so...
By the way, the issue with the iPhone (other than that I work for one of their competitors
), is that it's connection to Exchange is far from perfect. One example is that if you respond to an email from your iPhone, the response does not show up in your sent items in Outlook - but there are many other similar issues, including meeting issues, etc.
Anyway, bottom line is that I would highly recommend that if you buy one, you get it with a 30 day return policy or something, or you figure out a place to play with it with your own sim card for a while, respond to a few emails, play with the TouchFlo 3D interface, etc.

i dont have a sedan for the bluetooth but thought id chime in anyway. looking forward to checking out the diamond for sprint. pro might be a bit bulky for me so if i can get away from the keyboard i would. checked out the instinct but still too large. got interested with my dads htc touch but a little too funky for me.
was supposed to be sept 2 release but i heard its pushed back to sept 20 for sprint with some retailers getting it a week later. pro doesnt come out until oct 19 supposedly.

I have one
I have an 07 G35S, and got my new touch diamond yesterday.
I had the mogul prviously and with Mobile 5.0 bluetooth would not even work. When I upgraded the Mogul to 6.1 I can get bluetooth to work by initiating the call then using the handset, then using BT. This is the only way I can get it to work.
The Diamond is no different. If I place a call using BT its all messed up. If i place the call using the phone, then hit the BT it works fine.
Still can't figure out how to transfer my contact from the phone to the car though. If anyone figures this out please let me know.

Since my Moto Q9h was crashing a lot during calls, I started a search for an alternative Windows Mobile phone. I went through a few including the Tilt, which I liked a lot, but had the same problems in the car with bluetooth. Ultimately I gave up on getting one that works properly with the G35 with navi. Basically there is something wrong with this bluetooth unit - there are way too many phones that don't work properly with it.
Anyway, contrary to my initial impression of the Diamond, after playing around with it, I do like it a lot now that I'm used to it. I currently have both the Sprint Diamond and the AT&T Fuze/aka Touch Pro (which actually is identical in terms of power/cpu/ram to the Sprint one), and am trying to decide which one of these two to go with and which to return. I'm almost certain I'll go with the Fuze because I do like the keyboard, and because the battery life on the AT&T phone is almost double that of the Sprint one (assuming I get the Sprint Touch Pro). This is because CDMA takes up a lot more juice than 3G/HSDPA apparently.
I'm using it in the car by calling, and when the person answers, quickly hitting 'Use Handset', saying hello, then hitting the Phone button. After that, it seems to work ok. I haven't yet tried starting a call in the phone, and then switching over - how do you do that unless the car is off when you start the call?
Regarding transferring the contacts, I successfully transferred all of my contacts from the Fuze today. The way to do this is to go to Contacts, in the menu go to 'Select Contacts'/All. Then in the menu again, select Send Contact/Beam. At this time, prepare the downloaded phonebook to receive contacts in the car (I won't go through that part because I assume you know how to do that, but if not, let me know, and I can go through that too). The phone should find the car as 'Unknown Device' in the 'Beam To' list. Select the Unknown Device, and it will transfer all the contacts.
It will fail if there are any duplicate contacts, so it's important to remember to unselect any dupes before sending.
