Please help...I'm so confused!
 

Hey All-

I just recently took delivery of a new 2008 Infiniti G35x in Blue Slate w/Premium Package. I had to get the AWD version cause where I live there can be a lot of snow in the winter. Unfortunately, with the G35x it came with the 17" rims since I did not get the Sport Package.

I'm looking to get some new bigger wheels, but I'm so confused on all these terms of "offset" and "spacers" :dunno: Ultimately, I would like to get either 18x8 or 19x8 rims in a non-staggered setup cause of the AWD factor. I know the OEM fitment is 17x7.5 all around. Will 18x8 or 19x8 fit my car without any problems to the AWD system, turning radius, wheel rubbing or anything else? I cannot lower the car since I need the clearance for snow, but I'm hoping by going with larger rims and lower profile tires that it will fill some of the wheel gap. My main dilemma is I don't know what "offset" to use or if "spacers" are needed :dunno: I even went to tirerack.com to read about the terminology and it makes a little bit of since. I just don't want wheels that are going to bulge outward like some kind of low-rider vehicle or anything "ricey". Classy is the look I'm going for with a slight performance appeal.

I don't have a specific rim in mind yet, but I'm leaning towards a design that was on my 2005 G35 Coupe with the Sport Package 19" wheels. I presume that those were considered "deep dish"? I just want the new wheels to look clean and flush as if it were stock. I hope this all makes sense and would greatly appreciate any insight.

I don't think 2005 Coupe 19" Wheels were deep dish.. I think I saw people doing staggered on X, but I might be wrong.. I think putting 18x8 or 19x8 will cause any problem to your car.. But once again.. I don't own X.. So.. Don't trust me too much.. Research around.. There are a lot of thread about these under sedan section... GL!!

1. You CAN run staggered rims on your X. You just have to make sure your rim/tire front and rears have the same exact rolling DIAMETER. On that note, I would also just make sure your widths are too far apart. Take a look at this link: https://g35driver.com/forums/g37-sed...7xs-sedan.html
2. 18x8 and 19x8 rims will be able to fit on your car w/ no problems (although that also depends on the rim). I run 19/8.5 and 19/9 during the summer time. You just need to get your offsets correct w/ aftermarkets.
3. As you looked b4, Tire Rack is a GREAT resource to learn all the terms and plus they have a section where you can look if the rims you are interested in will fit on your car.

Thanks for all your feedback so far. I would prefer not to run a staggered setup, so that would not be a concern for me. I was looking on Wheelmax.com and saw something similar to what I want. They are called Exel Radius (http://www.wheelmax.com/product.asp?ProdId=17282), and I've decided to go with 18x7.5 all around to match the OEM specifications as close as possible. Does anyone have any personal experience with those rims? I read somewhere on the web that Exel rims are "casted" and not "forged", but for the price it's quite enticing to consider. With that said, I would assume that they are a heavier rim than our current OEM's? I really don't want to spend too much on new rims and tires, but at the same time I would like more of a sportier appeal to my new vehicle, as the current OEM wheels are just so generic. I'm not looking to race, or make it look like some 17yr. old's rice box.

Hmmm those would be nice for a winter set...plus if I'm not mistaken, those rims are as light as hell.

i would actually run those rims from summer and use your stock 17's with blizzaks as a dedicated snow set up... thinner wheels cut through the snow better.

Wow...thanks for the link! Those rims are very nice and classy, but yet still sports the "sporty" appeal. Can these be outfitted with 225/45/19 tires or even 225/50/19?

That's the set up I'm running right now, but I going to get BBK's next spring which probably won't clear the 17's.

ovrkast - Sorry for thread stealing, but the 225/45 will fit w/ no problems. IMO you should get those rims. They are very nice and lighter than our stock 17's

Yeah...they are really nice wheels. But it looks like if I get 19" I will have to go with 40 series tires and that means less rubber and more road noise. The lowest I wanted to go with was 45 but Tirerack does not recommend that :dunno: And because the Nismos are 19x8.5 I can't get 225, and I will need to move to 245/40/19 :icon43:
