I am in the same boat too, really wanting to redo my exhaust. But my plan is to buy the components and have a shop fab up a cat-back system thus saving around 6 hundred bones.

Hey csquared, I think if you put in a xpiped magnaflow you would be ok, Jusr freeing up more flow so less terbulence in the system.. I'm still looking for exhaust. I dont thnk blue slate is selling is FI. But I did call Tanabe and they will be releasing a full catback for us just not sure when?? I may just get their axle back and a true duel and a xpiped magnaflow put in, Not sure???

Yeah I'm pretty sure it'll cost something like that for me to build a system too. I like your plan, I was thinking of doing that. The thing is Should I get The X pipe first or the mufflers? haha, Plus I have no idea what the stock piping is made of, if I weld stuff in it would be Stainless steel. If we just start cutting stuff up and welding stuff on it'll have like different metal right?

I would think it would be a conventional steel. Quick test, try and stick a magnet to it, it it does its steel, if not its stainless or Ti (lol), either way both of those are not magnetic, conventional steel is.

I would think most shops could weld anything anyway or flange and clamp if needed.

Let me know guys what you wind up doing, I wouldnt mind an exhaust project, was thinking of going from X to H pipe, and making it swappable in case I didnt like the outcome.

Quote: I've been looking and I found the Tanbe for $618 shipped( yes I know it's a axle back) and Blueslate is selling his FI on here( Not sure the FI will be to loud and is there is droan). So I could get a exhaust for that price just not sure which way to go..The Stillen is on here for sale but he wanted $700 and there was no Y-pipe.
the TANABE sounds AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Trust him on this, I had the Tanabe on my 04 350Z and the sound was pure sex.. I would love listening to my wife drive away.. .LOL
OH BTW: I wish Nismo made a system for us I had a Nismo cat back on my 04 Maxima and oh man was it nice.. Almost as nice as the Tanabe very close.. But I'm real close to geting the Tanabe and building a xpiped system back to them..

Yea they said it would cost 180 to fab up any components I brought in to them. The tubing under our car looks very restrictive (nissan loves back pressure) and i hope buy opening it up to 2.25 piping all the way back i wont loose to much tq down low. Can anybody comment on this??? I dont know what the stock tubing was made of and I cant answer the question about mixing metals together. I dont know if you can weld stainless and aluminized together or not. () Whenever i get it done I will post up sound pixs and what nots. good luck everybody.
