G35 Brake light, slip, VDC light on even after fix
G35 Brake light, slip, VDC light on even after fix
So my brake light, slip and VDC light would blink on and stay on for awhile and every once awhile go off so I took it in to the shop and got my both my front pads and rotors replaced and got two new front tires (rears are about 50%). NOW the lights will stay on the whole time. These should have fixed the problem right? So why are all the lights still on? How do I get them off?
Running down the short list of most likely culprits for the lights, my guess would be that as (thescreensavers) just mentioned, your brake fluid was simply too low. You quite possibly could have topped it off and gotten another year out of your existing brakes too, but brake shops do like to make a sale. If the pads are low, they just sell you a new set, whether or not there was still useable life in the old ones. That's all water under the bridge now, but if the fluid level is still low (since the rears are worn too
), then you'll continue to get the lights.
Next, although much more remote in possibility, the two scenarios that come to mind are:
A) a damaged wheel speed sensor
B) a significant mismatch in tire sizes caused and/or aggravated by the replacement of just the fronts while retaining the worn rears.
EDIT: BTW, you do realize you're posting this in the V36 sedan section, right? It looks like you have an '04 coupe

Oh sorry about posting in the Sedan forum. I was searching for a fix and just must of clicked it on accident.
I just checked the brake fluid level and it is not at max or min but like half way in between them. I would figure the shop would top it off while checking my brakes. Since the reason I went it was cause the brake light went on and my brakes where squeaking but I didn't know if they were bad or if it was from the dust from a some big dust storms we had come thru.
So do you think I should just fill up the brake fluid or go get my brakes flushed since I don't think I have done that yet at my car just reached 120K?

Well, first off, I have to say that I'm not as familiar with the 1st gen coupes behavior around those lights. I know they had a lot of similarities with the 2nd gen sedans around those symptoms, but I can't speak from direct knowledge/experience, so take it with that in mind. In the sedans, It is possible for a mid-level fill of the fluid reservoir to give a wild reaction like that, although usually it's initially intermittent (triggered by sloshing of the fluid) and not constant unless fairly low. It's not altogether uncommon though, and it's so easy to overcome, that it should just be quickly eliminated by topping it off (which you can do yourself in two minutes).
That being said, if the fluid is truly the original fluid since new ('04) then is well past due (should be done every 2-3 years) for a flush and I would encourage you to do so. Lastly, I will say that if I were you, and had paid a shop to do my brakes and tires and then I had the lights on steady afterwards, AND THEY LET THE CAR DRIVE AWAY LIKE THAT, then I'd be mighty upset and disappointed and I'd let them know it. Perhaps they'll give you a break on the flush to make it up to you.
