Question about gas, ethanol and octane rating

Recently the state I live in has change the laws about what 'kind' of gas is 'allowed' to be sold. Before the change, we normally had regular unleaded, no ethanol, at 87 octane, mid-grade at 89 octane with 15% ethanol added and premium, no ethanol, at 91 octane. Since we bought the car (3 months ago) we have never put anything in but the premium as per the owners manual. Can't speak to what the car got before we bought it. Now the lowest grade of unleaded at 87 octane will have the 15% added to it with no change to the octane rating. This has made a lot of the stations switch to have the 87 and 89 grades with an 89 grade premium that has no ethanol. Their are still a few of the larger stations that had already offered more that the basic 3 choices that still have the 91 octane but are getting fewer and fewer and I'm told in time that they will be changed also.We will continue to run the 91 octane as long as we can. I understand all of the implications of the lower octane (engine knock, less performance) but I have no choice but to use what is available unless I need to put a bottle of octane boost in every time we fill up. I have never believed in the 'magic in a bottle' fix. Soooo, what is every one else's experiences with gas and their cars. Will the 89 octane premium make that noticeable difference to how it drives without damaging the engine? The computer and knock sensor should retard the timing to make up for the lower octane. Also, I have spoken to several people locally about this, Infiniti service writer at the dealership (total dumba$$), personal mechanic, and so on. Everybody has a different opinion and no two match. From ' it's fine, just use the best you can', 'to never put ethanol in it' Sorry this was so long, but I guess I had a lot to say. Let's hear from everyone to see if there can be a consensus about this.

Here in Texas, we have 87, 89, and 93 ALL with 10% Ethanol. Non-Alcohol gas is rare to find, I know of only one place in a 150 mile radius that has it. Rudy's Bar-B-Q.

We normally run 89 in it and when I know we are going to kick butt, run 93. I have never noticed a problem, but the car runs much better with the high test. I'm gonna, just for the fun of it, go to the local air port and fill up on some 100 no ethanol and see what happens. I'll have to buy it in the can as I don't think there are "road taxes" on it.

I just got back from Tenn. Im in NJ we have 93 octane 100%gas and 10% ethanol.l run 93 100%gas.l just noticed a 2mpg loss with ethanol. I went from 26 mpg to 24 with ethanol.l didnt notice any pinging just loss of mpg.l dont use anything less than 93 octane in NJ costs $3.49 in Tenn it cost $3.79. You should have no problems or need the octane boost. You will have to try it without boost and go from there
