Question about rear view mirror

How's everyone doing? I just picked up my G35x today. The only option i have is the moonroof. I do not have the premium package. Is it just me or is the rear view mirror really cheap looking? It looks like they got it from a 1990 honda accord. It has no auto dimming or anything but it's just so thin and flimsy looking. Is this the right mirror? or did they break the original and put this one on?

Yes, the mirror does suck but there is only another problem if you want the Auto dimming mirror you need to change your whole front window in order for it to fit.

Edit: congrats on the car enjoy your stay.

you can't play video unless e-brake is on for safety regulations

Let's just clear something up right now: You do NOT have to order a whole new front window to get the autodimming mirror.

In fact, it is an easy process to buy an aftermarket mirror, and install it yourself.

I did this EXACT installation on my friends' G35X. We found the OEM (Gentex)dimming mirror on ebay, and all you need for installation is a wire cutter/splicer, socket wrench set, flat head screwdriver and a small Phillips screwdriver.

Let me know if you want details on the install, but it was really easy!

You get the autodimming, compass, and 3 Homelink buttons (for opening garage doors, etc) all on the mirror.

RIPMASTER, the original thread was started by someone with no premium package...therefore the mirror has NO devices that require power. Are you saying that the install you did was to a similar mirror? If so was there power available or did you have to hunt down the power lead? You offer on details on the install would be appreciated. Thanks

I got a similar mirror on Ebay (had the compass and autodim, but no temp sensor (duh!) and no homelink (didn't need it) and had autotech guy at a local Circuit City auto install it for me for $100 on my 07 X. He did it in less than 1 hour and said he had no problems hooking it up to power. Works great! He also installed other mods I wanted - stock Sirius satellite radio and faux wood trim (both Ebayed).

So for reference: we repaced the crappy standard, non-powered mirror on the base model with an OEM Gentex Homelink, Compass and autodimming mirror. This mirror came with cables for a power run. It's as simple as this: we ran the leads up under the roof liner along the driver side, then down the A-pillar, down through the dash and simply plugged them right into the fuse box. Done! The A-pillar pops off with a flat head screwdriver and pops back on with a gentle tap from your palm.

Yup, have it done in my car too and I got off the Gentex mirror from eBay. It was a simple job that took me about an hour to do.

Which locations in the fuse box did you tap into for power? I'm assuming the radio or cigarette lighter fuse for switched 12V. Where is the best location to tap for constant 12V?
