A Few Noob Questions, How To Rip CD, etc.

Hi guys, and thanks in advance for your help.

Got my shiny new 2008 G35x, it has all the packages, nav and premium, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no manual. I ordered one but it's not coming for a while and there are a few things I can't figure out.

First of all, how do you rip a CD to the internal hard drive? I just can't seem to figure out how to do this.

Secondly, there is some kind of sliding panel that comes out sideways from the passenger sun flap. What is this for?

And finally, there are two switches down and to the left of the steering wheel that turn off two things (ESC? I can't remember). Can somebody please tell me what these do?

Thanks a ton!

Pop the CD into the CD slot, the LCD screen should show you a listing of all the tracks on the CD (either give the actual song name or just say Track 1, Track 2, etc). On the bottom of the actual screen, you'll see an icon that says "Rec" with the well known red circle beside it. Press that icon and it'll begin ripping the CD. Hopefully your CD has actual song titles on it, otherwise you'll either have to input the song titles manually through the LCD screen (very tedious) or just have to live with it...which I wouldn't advise because once you start filling up that harddrive, it can become extremely difficult and confusing to find a specific song or playlist.

Once your CD starts being ripped to the HD, you can't switch songs while its ripping, you'll see a little indicator on the bottom left corner of the screen showing you its progress. Although you can't change songs during this process, you can listen to the radio or other songs on your harddrive during the process. Should you turn the car off before it's finished ripping all the songs, when you restart the car, you'll have to hit the "Rec" icon again on the screen and it'll pick up where you left off.

As for the sliding panels in the sunshades...a lot of cars come with those...although I have no idea what purpose they serve.

The two buttons to the left of the dash are for the Electronic Stablity Control, turning this off will disable the stability and traction control in the event you want to drive like a bat out of hell...but be careful, if you don't know what you're doing and find yourself spinning too much, the car won't bother to prevent you from crashing into a tree. The other button disables the adaptive headlights.

Hope this helps.

The sliding panels are to block the little bit of sun that can get in your eyes when the sun is above or around the rearview mirror. It blocks that problem.

Toyota's and lots of cars have same. Audi's have a better solution - a 2" flap that comes down from ceiling of car.

and only WMA CD tracks or store bought CD which i think is also WMA format. a burned CD with MP3 will not work.. only a 70-80 min "regular cd"

the HD which i find no use for.. i can fit 100+ songs mp3 on a cd or having a couple CF and using those.

the HD is quite useful atleast for me and i burn MP3 format to the HD but it has to be in "regular cd" form like suby said so it will be about 10-14 songs per cd you can burn to the drive.
