Hey guys I've scoured the forums and haven't been able to find an answer so I figured I'd ask. Does anyone know where I could tap into near the fuse box to illuminate footwell LEDs? I'd like them to only go on when the doors are open and then fade off when shut. If it wasn't a complete b***tch to follow the line through the door to the lights that illuminate the ground I would just do that but it will be entirely too difficult. There is a write up for earlier years where people have gone through the BCM (? That could be wrong, I forget) but I couldn't find that same group of wires in my 08 sedan. If anyone could take a pic of the wires I could tap into to achieve this it would be a huuuge help to myself and the otherss whose questions were ignored in older threads.

 

This is a long shot but if you look at the pic in this thread https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy...l-removal.html where the door panel is off it looks like the wires going to the ground light are pink/white. Possibly could be the same colors once they pass through into the cabin.

Like I said, long shot but worth a chance. If you do find those colors coming back through from the door test em with a volt meter.

 

I did this recently with some autozone led lights but i cut them apart and used them for my own wiring. What I used to tap i what the glove box light. On the actual OEM kit for the sedans, they have a special connector for it but they have you go through the glove box light. I spliced in instead of that connector and WALA it worked great. I have them come one when my head lights are on. I forget the colors but I think its self explanatory on (+) and (-)

 

Wouldn't this make it so they would only illuminate when the glove box is opened? Sorry I'm at work right now so I can't go out and check. But I'm wondering how they would be powered by the headlights this way.

 

You would think they would only turn on with the glove box open, however they are tied into the same relay as the lights are, so if u turn driving lights or headlights (i just have my on auto feature) they will come on in sync with you headlights. Weird I know but believe it or not thats how its wired

I am not sure if you want them to turn on with the interior lights, you might have to run a relay for that to get it to function for both. I like with the headlights because if it is light enough for the headlights aren't coming on, you proboly won't seem them on with the door open, if its dark, your headlights should come on when u open the door or short after, same with them turning off after you turn your car off

 

I got the OEM kit from a friend and it has the special connector. Since I replaced all my bulbs with LED's you think I should use the LED's that are in the kit or buy LED strips and use the connector that came with the KIT? The reason I am asking is because I have read some forums that some people say th light is not bright enough and some say it is just right. Just trying to get a good idea of what I want to do.

 

I mean you can use the connector, but honestly i would just sell it if it I was in your position. But if you don't feel comfortable splicing in, then yea you could use the harness connector supplied with those lights. I just couldn't see spending 100+ for two lights, instead i spent like 12 dollars for 8 lights that i didnt even all use and they still work great, people keep asking me if I used the OEM kit haha. Oh and I don't think i wrote this above, but to get the wiring over to the other side, there should be a vent through the center console that you can guide the wire through and you should be set!

 

Just installed the kit but have not seen it at night yet so further review to come. You are correct about light not coming on until your headlights are on. I thought they would turn on with the door/map lights but i figure whats the purpose during the day because your not going to see it anyways. The install was not that bad at all.

Im going to attempt this. I bought some aftermarket leds and would like more info on where and how exactly to tap into the wires so that the leds are on when headlights are on. Pics or instructions?

 

Ok its really not to hard so don't stress. If you want them to turn on with your headlights the easiest way to go is tap where the glove box light is. Believe it or not, the light turns on with your headlights not by opening the glove box. The glove box is held by plastic hook that should pop off and a sorta hydraulic string that will keep the box from just banging open. Unhook that and there should be I think 6 screws if I remember correctly. Unscrew those and take off the cover and the light should be accessible. Tap into the wire with wire taps or splicing and you will have a negative and positive, and you can just line those up with your lights. To get wiring over to the drivers side, there is a vent under the center console, thats the best way to route the wires through (the oem kit also says to do that). You can either drill into the underneath for you lights or stick them on that choice is up to you along with wire management etc. Reverse the steps to put the glove box back together and you should be set.
