Team Rare JDM - Big Willow, 5.30.09
Last Saturday we headed out to Big Willow for the Redline Time Attack practice day. Ran my new Work XT7's and Nitto NT01's... this is from the 2nd session, by the 3rd session I was more confident with the new tires and was accelerating throughout turn 8. Had a great time despite the heat... I definitely need more power for a track of this size, you can make up a lot of time in the straights.

The C-west car was 10 seconds faster than Scott's Z at WSIR last weekend, and we both know what a beast the Z is.... he was tuned for just over 600whp when I saw him last last weekend at AAA speedway, and WSIR is known as the "Fastest track in the west".

That's why I'm not competing just yet... simply learning the tracks first and getting comfortable with the parts I have. We're building a couple of engines, and by next year we should be a lot more competitive. Just going out there with a fast car doesn't mean anything if you don't know how to drive it quickly around the track... just ask the Porsche that I was spankin all day long lol
That looks fun as hell man, makes me wanna build my car's suspension for the track. How are your tires after the run?

Tracking is fun as hell for sure... once you start, you're going to want to go as often as possible. If you're going to do a big track like this, I definitely recommend getting some tires dedicated for racing. I was running my daily driven Falken 452's before, and after a good track day they would be gummy and missing little chunks. The NT01's got very sticky, but held up great. I've been using the NT05's as well, and they hold up much better than the Falken 452 or Toyo T1r's that I was running before.
The suspension has really helped out. I'm running Zeal Function v6 coils, with 16/12 spring rates, and the car stays super flat now. Body roll is almost completely gone, and the car feels solid in and out of turns. I'm really happy with the setup right now, and while I'm looking forward to having a little more power, I'm glad I don't have it right now

Are you planning on doing Redline TA? What class are you targetting?

Next year we'll competing in the Redline TA street class. Been going through the rules and slowly building the car to fit in that class. This is still my daily driver, so I don't want to do anything too crazy to it just yet. However, we should have another car ready to run by next season, and I'm thinking that one will be in the modified class.
Ahhh best of luck.
Street is a tough class... the top cars all push modifications to the limits of what the rules allow, and non-factory-fi cars get the shaft in terms of power
.
Lookin forward to seeing you out on the track

Cool track racing, Zack! I can't wait to see you start competing.
I know I keep asking you this every time, but did you have the new gears installed for this session? How well are all the coolers you installed working?
Also, as you have said, your G is your daily driver despite the fact that you track it all the time. How are you steering linkages holding up? Does your steering wheel feel loose at all or does it still feel the same from the day you first got it?

Yeah, it's going to be tough for sure... but with the modifications the rules allow, you can get the car competitive. Seems like the winners are always the s2k's and lotus's, so it's definitely gonna be a fight to get anywhere near placing. I'm really enjoying the experience though, so even if we don't get to the point of winning, I'll still be having a great time competing

I can picture the car in my head... some fatty tires and you're good to go

Definitely going to be waiting for the day the s2k/elise/mr2 go omgwtfbbq we lost to a G
(tC anyone?)Are you going to be competing in any other classes (with other organizations)? I'll definately be following your car.
