Took my G to VIR a couple weeks ago
Enjoy....
I had someone else filming, too so I sync'd and combined the video where possible.
=1st half of it has music
=2nd half is just wind/engine
=Skip the first 30sec if you dont want to see what's leaving the pit
=M3 with blown engine stuck on track around 9:45
My car:
2006 G35 Coupe 6MT
Mods:
MREV2
5/16" ISO Spacer
Equipment:
All-Season tires (stock size on OEM 19's)
EBC Yellowstuff pads/brembo vented rotors (Front)
EBC Redstuff pads/brembo vented rotors (rear)
Motul 600 Synthetic Brake Fluid in brake/clutch
Comments:
Brake Pads:
I started off with Redstuff pads all around (my street set up). They were fine for about 2 laps and then they got too hot and faded. I was worried I hadnt bled the brakes well enough (I had flushed the system the day before), but as soon as I put on the yellows everything was wonderful. They didnt fade at all the whole weekend and had more bite. The yellows are semi metallic though and dirty up the wheels so I switched back to the reds after the event. I didnt bother with the rears, I may buy a set for next time though.
VDC:
Should go without saying, but leaving this on is ridiculous on the track, the car is very stable and easy to control without it. (What does this turn off/leave on?? TC?).
Track:
On a good lap I was hitting 125mph on both the front and back straights and 110mph on the uphill esses.

Here are a couple of places to find events (or go to your local racetracks webpage)
http://www.hookedondriving.com/hooked-on-driving-events
http://hpdejunkie.com/
Im sure there are more...
Spending $500 learning to drive at high speeds will make you way faster than any other $500 mod to your car (and you take that experience with you to any other car you drive)
Ive taken a WRX, MR2 Turbo, NA Miata, CTS-V, and now a G35 on various road courses, they all drive a bit differently, but honestly the G35 was probably the easiest to drive. Not sure if thats from experience or if its just a tame car. I barely remember the WRX (it was a friends car and my first time on track), the MR2 Turbo was mid engine and spun easily. The Miata I had didnt have ABS and with a short wheel base it could spin easily too (not like the MR2 though). The CTS-V was a BEAST on the straight aways but with all that power I had to be really careful pressing the gas in the twisties... The G35 was a nice compromise and rarely got out of shape.

All that aside, at these events slower drivers point the faster ones by. The Vette did it for me and I did it for the Golf R (That guy was fast!). Gotta leave your ego at home or you'll end up in a wall.
NOTE: Insurance does NOT cover you on a racetrack, if you stuff it into a wall, the damage to your car (and the racetrack!) is on you.
There are 4 levels of drier at the event I was at:
Green = Beginners
Blue = Intermediate (I was here)
Yellow = Advanced
Red = Expert
Black = Instructor
