San Diego G owners, NEed help

HEllo SD G owners,

I need some help. TEam transport will be showing at HID in the Qualcom Stadium and we were wondering if there is a nice car washing place near by and a mote/hotel near by also. Any help would be great! Thanks

Ed

luckily qualcomm stadium sits in the middle of hotel circle (at the 8 / 805 interchange), so your choices are endless. i'm not sure what the rates and availability of the hotels are, but there are literally so many hotels, that you might just come down and stop into a bunch of places.

As far as car washing places go, I go to World Famous Car Wash (I belive that's what it's called). It's on Clairemont Mesa close to the 805 fwy. It's about a 10 min drive to Qualcom Stadium. The reason that I go there is because they offer a $25 special outside hose hand wash, where they don't take the car through the rails. Got my rim scratched up once, and it's never through the rails again for me.

There is another carwash just east of the stadium about 2 miles on Friars Rd...but it has to go through the rail...I've not had my rims scratched there though...I think the best two car washes that I've been to in SD are the one up here on Autopark in Escondido, and there is one off Mira Mesa Blvd, just west of the 15 on the left...don't know what the name was but it was one of the better washes I've gotten.

Re: San Diego G owners, NEed help

Here's a slightly marked up map of part of the Mission Valley area, with Qualcomm Stadium, and I've highlighted Hotel Circle for you - which is literally nothing but hotels side-by-side on both sides of the freeway. Hotel Circle is actually west of 163, not at the 8/805 interchange, but it's only about 2-3 miles west of the stadium.

Friars Rd is the one running east/west and touching Qualcomm on the north. HoshTaylor's suggestion is called Stadium Car Wash, and its at the bottom of the hill going east on Friars right before a gas station. The AutoPark in Escondido is about 30-40 miles north on I15, probably too far away. Mira Mesa Blvd isn't too far.. north of the 163/I-15 merge, just north of MCAS Miramar, probably about 10 miles from the 8. From Hotel Circle you can take 163 north and find yourself merging on the 15 just south of Miramar.

805 and 163 both continue north past the top of this map and intersect. So, if you want to try CrashTestDummy's World Famous Car Wash, from Hotel Cir you can start on 163 and switch over to 805. Clairemont Mesa Blvd is one exit past Balboa Ave.

I don't have any recommendations for or against any of these places. The only one I've been to is the Stadium Car Wash, and they're okay. They scrub your car fairly well before it goes into the rail washer, which if I remember correctly, has plastic guards on the rails. They don't always get all the bugs off, but then neither does anybody else I've ever been to.

Did you say July 10th? You must be in the smaller NorthEast or SouthEast parking lots. We've got the larger West Lot booked for autocross on that day.

Re: San Diego G owners, NEed help

there is a DIY spray place in Point Loma. Just go east on the 8 fwy, exit rosecrans, keep going straight 'bout 3/4mi (pass Midway Dr. and Sports Arena) till you see an Arco/AmPm on the corner (can't remember what that street is, I wanna say it's Lytton St.) when you see that gas station, make that left.... You'll see it immediately on your left side (right next to the gas station).... Hope that helps.

So, um, do I get a free pass into the car show... =)

erock: I think you meant to say go west on the 8.. there's not much of the 8 between Rosecrans and the Pacific to go east on.
