Someone stole my license...

Monday I go to my usual mexican watering hole (Cozymel's) for lunch, located right accross the way from my work. On my return I'm waiting at the light to turn left on to the main Ave. and there's a Miata reving up on me, so I decide to show him up. As soon as the light changed I launched and was gone... I get to the next corner where I need to make a right, and just swing thru the red light... now I continue on and blow thru a stop sign doing about 60 mph... I get to the main gate of my work and I notice in my mirror (you guessed it) colorful flashing lights... So now, with nothing to do but laugh, I'm getting pulled over in front of my work... as I wave at my friends and co-workers passing by me the Officer walks up to my window and asks if I knew the speed limit on "that" street. I reply, "25 I'm guessing", with a big grin on my face. He asks, "Do you know how fast you were going?" I tell him around 40... then he asks why I was driving like that... I told him I was trying to catch up to my friend... lol... (we all know i don't have friends)... So he then asks to see my DL, Insurance and my Reg. I hand him all 3 and inform him that I don't have the "current" Proof of Insuance. He just takes what I give him and smiles and walks back to his car. Not even a minute I hear the Officer call out my name and ask "Are you aware, you are driving with a suspended license?" I tell him, No I haven't received any notice. And he informs me of an issue I thought had been settled in the past. He then welcomes me to his car and shows me the information he pulled up on his in car computer. I tell him I took care of that and it was supposed to be cleared. Fortunately for me he was an understanding person and ended up not writing me up for any violation, not impounding my car for driving with a suspended license and not taking me in for a misdermeaner offence, driving with a suspended license. Also he didn't write me up for the $1500 fine of no Proof of Insurance, which would be lowered to $500 when I go to court and show my proof. Needless to say I was very lucky he only "stole" my license. The next day I take off work and go to the court house to make sure they have record of everything. From there I head to the DMV to settle my case by paying $55 to reinstate my DL and another $19 to make a duplicate, since the Officer "stole" mine. $74 wasn't such a bad expence considering. I can still go back to the court and make them reimburse me the $55 for having falsely informing me that I was cleared... LOL... I hope you enjoyed the story of my adventure and hope to see you at the next meet.

P.S.
For those who care. I drive a Silver Sedan 6MT CA license plate "KRZ HAYN" = "Krazy Hawaiian". A "Shaka" is always welcome.

Re: Someone stole my license...

That's hilarious and sucks at the same time. I love when courts tell you something's cleared up, then you get a happy little letter (or not) that states something to the contrary. Good thing you had a cool cop... I would've just dragged your a$$ to jail for driving a cool car. Maybe this is why I'm not a cop.

Re: Someone stole my license...

You lucked out. For driving on a suspended license, it is a 30-day hold impound (14602.6VC is the authority to hold your car). That is over $1000 right now. And BTW, it is legal for the officer to take your license (since the DMV says you are unlicensed). He then sends it back to the DMV, it is done all the time. Good thing I didn't stop you.
