Just bought a G - proper break in?

Sup all I just bought a black G35 sedan yesterday and I wanted to know the proper break in method. I'm sure this post was already listed but I couldn't find it. Man the car is tight, it's a lot of car for the money. Also, knowing this is stupid, I took it up to 140 already. If anyone has any tips please let me know, thanks

Hey clev1, congrats on the purchase! If you're in the Bay Area you should go to one of the meets.

Any way, the owner's manual says that the break in period is 1000 miles. You should avoid driving at a constant speed for long periods of time, full throttle acceleration, hard braking, and towing a trailer (uh, right, no towing). Only other tip is watch for the po-po when doing 140.

Hope that helps.

The only thing that Tre5 didn't mention was not to go over 3000 rpm...
Thats basically meaning, nothing over 80 mph...

hm..we are meeting on saturday? How come i don't know this?? Yes break in PERIOD Is important. personally i babied my car for a long while. I went under 3000 rpm for 3 months except once when i had the urge to floor it at 2000(but none after that) Also on freeway i went under 70 and went from 60-70 on and off. No constant speed. Thats what i did!! : )

Re: proper break in?

Keep it under 3000....No such thing. Drive it like hell.

Don't even worry about a gradual buildup to rpms...drive it like hell. Infiniti already did before shipping it!

The break in period is a CYA for Infiniti. They recommend the lower break in RPMS to lessen the damage you may cause in the event there is a bad oil filter or something. Who cares, its under warranty and they will have to foot the bill.

Re: proper break in?

The break-in period is as much for the transmission as for the engine. While you may not damage the engine, you may shorten it's life or the life of the transmission by not following the break-in procedures.

Just follow the procedures outlined in your owners manual.

Re: proper break in?

Hi:

It is my understanding that not driving at a constant speed is very important. What you are trying to achieve is the process of slowing down the engine while the car is in gear. This helps seat the rings. I have been told that you are basically creating a vacuum which helps lubricate the upper cyliner area. I broke one of my Supras in this way, following the rev limitations, and with 230K mi, it runs very nice, with no oil consumption.

I bought a newer Supra with just 62K mi and it consumes oil. The woman who owned it before me, original owner, took very good care of the car with service records to prove it. Thus, I can only attribute the excessive oil consumption to poor break in.

But; hey, there are many opinions on this subject. I just think it is wise to be careful because of my experience as noted above.

every mile you had on that car before you got it was driven to hell, and they dont even both to shift when its getting on and off that boat, they just redline it.
