wheel cleaning products

i picked up my 6mtC last week. only have about 100 miles on it. wiped away brake dust with these penzoil wipes (looks like baby wipes).

went through two wipes.

got me thinking, what is the downside to using babywipes or whatever is cheaper to wipe the wheels?

Re: wheel cleaning products

I have started using Eagle One A2Z All Wheel and Tire Cleaner. Even after the wheels look black as black, this stuff just cuts right through. Absolutely amazing. Just spray on cool wheels and tires then rinse off with water. DONE! This way you never have to touch the wheel with anything remotely abrasive.

Re: wheel cleaning products

I waxed my wheels with liquid glass. Now when I spray clean it the dust literally drips right off. I buy whatever spray cleaner is on sale as most of them are the same.

Re: wheel cleaning products

With all these wheel cleaners,if you use them, try not to get any chemicals on the rotors.I use my pressure washer I got at Pep Boys for $90,It works just as good or better than the "wash on wash off/no hand power"claims from those cleaners

Re: wheel cleaning products

I got tired of using wheel cleaners and recently switched to an economy sized bottle of car wash for the wheels. My G35C is Zaino'ed and I use Z5 for the car. So the car wash is used only on the wheels. As long as you wax the wheels once in a while, the car wash clean out the brake dust just fine. FWIW, I use a different bucket and mitt for washing the wheels. The bottle of car wash is around $9, and will out last a case of wheel cleaner. Since those "spray on, hose off" cleaner never works for me anyway, I can save some money and avoid the chance of acidy wheel cleaners from damaging the wheels finish.

Re: wheel cleaning products

TX...G35 That sounds like pretty good advice. I too use a different towel or sponge to do my wheels. I don't want any of the brake dust to get on the cars finish. Soap is soap and the car wash is probably fine for the wheels. I guess we all think that a "wheel cleaner" is specialized and works best for wheels. It's all marketing!

Re: wheel cleaning products

I used some Formula 409 household cleaner the other day on my brake dust problem wheels. Worked as good as the specialty wheel cleaner I was using................who knows.

Re: wheel cleaning products

After giving the wheels a good cleaning, wax them. Then, a sponge and water are all you need to remove the brake dust.
