Series designation of Tires

It's about time for me to change my tires, so i was going with my traditional V-series tires, but these guys at the dealer was harassing me about how I def should go with the W or Y- series tires since my car is a sports car. I didn't think much of it, but the guys go off about how if you don't have the right series tires your stearing may be off, suspension won't be as good, turns will be wide, breaking power could be hindered, as well as performance in rain/snow is worse...etc etc.

My friend's got the 350Z, which come stock with V-series tires and dropped down to the S-series b/c it was cheaper. And he doesn't seem to have problems at all. So i don't see why i should increase them unless i'm wrong and the series of your tires makes that much of a difference. Anyone know about how much of a difference the tire series makes on ur car??

unless you plan on going over 120 you dont need W or Y speed rated tires.

Is there a difference between S and V-series tires? Since my friend's 350Z seems to be fine, i figure it'll be cheaper on my wallet.

The difference is the speed rating. A 'V' rated tire is able to perform at higher speeds than an 'S' rated tire. V rated tires are up to 150mph where the S rated tire can only go up to 112 mph.

Well with a lower rated tire you could go faster than the rated speed but you risk the tire coming apart. If you don't go faster than 100, you could go with a S. But it's better to get the best tires you can afford. It's a 40 grand car why take a chance trying to save $100-200.

I think you are fine with the V series tire ( doubt you will ever drive above 150 ), but you shouldnt go below that on a G.
