Brake Wear Survey

i've read many people hear complain about brake wear. but, i wonder if it is more prevelant on MT's or AT's.

Please post your comments and mention your tranny types.

If you are MT, please mention if you downshift to help slow car down or not.

Thanks

Re: Brake Wear Survey

New pads all around at 16,500 miles on my 5AT. At 30,000
miles the front rotors needed replacing along with the front
pads, the rears are 80% at 30,000.

Re: Brake Wear Survey

cato,

at 16500 when the brakes were changed, how were your rotors.

i've had non performance cars in the past and rarely had to change rotors. get them re-cut yes, but change no.

did you replace with infiniti or aftermarket

Re: Brake Wear Survey

StudlyMobile,

I bought the G used when it came off lease. It had 16,500 mi
on it when purchased. I never had a reason to look at the
rotors then, as I was ignorant of the issue. The new rotors
are stock Infiniti. Did not have time or inclination to buy
the Stillen or other rotors last week. While in the shop for
the 30,000 mile service, the service advisor informed me that
I had 10% left on the front. ****...Next time I will consider
upgrading to Stillen rotors. But if they are the same thickness
as stock, chances are they will need replacing just as often.
Don't really know what to do about it. Seems like we need
pads that don't eat the rotors. but then stopping power will
decrease. Don't want to downgrade the braking performance
of my baby!
