I got a flat... tire experts come in

I picked up a couple friends last night... see pics below.

Are these fixable? Firestone said that they are too close to the sidewall, but the guy reminds me of the soup **** (seinfeld). So I want a second opinion from you guys. (Gdup and anyone else in the "know" about this stuff)

Thanks.

lol, thanks for callin me out i work at firestone, legally that's not repairable because its within a half inch of the sidewall, however, if the tech is good enough it can be repaired (talkin about myself, not being conceited or anything, i just know i can fix it) It takes some skill to get the die grinder in the sidewall without going down to the steel belts, but it can be done. However, it'll be hard to get a shop to do it for you and do it right

I would say they are too close to the sidewall. It is a high stress point on the tire.If you try to fix that, very good chance it will fail.It sucks to have to replace the tire, but it is alot easier to do that than replace you.

it can be done, as long as you use a patch plug and not a flat patch, it wont compromise the structural rigidty of the sidewall as long as it's done right. But like i said, its very very very hard to find someone to do it right.

Clean G 4D, if you want, you can send the tire to me and i'll try and fix it, depending on the angle it went into the tire, if its towards the sidewall, there's not way to fix it. If its away from the sidewall and didnt do any damage to the inside of the tire i can fix it and send it back.

Gdup, is there any special way to ship it to you? or would I just use UPS/Fedex?

If I were to replace the tire, would I replace just that one, or both rear tires (approx 11,000 miles on them).

you could ship it however you like, they'll just tape around the shipping label and send it bare. From the looks of it, you still have some good tread life left, you wouldnt need to get two tires unless you really wanted to.

Do you think its worth the cost of shipping and repair, versus replacing the tire?

+1 IMO just replace it. because if you were to ship it to him, there are shipping fees, plus the repair charges. then another shipping fee to be shipped back there...i dont know man, i'd just replace the whole thing.

seriously, i'd just replace it,i was just throwing an idea out ther. I wouldnt charge you anything to repair it, but shipping would probably be about $25 each way.

it is really easy if you know what you're doing, and since i've done atleast 20 flat repairs a week in the past 2+ years... practice makes perfect i geuss. Too bad yur not in SD or i'd repair it today.

^Hmm, I may end up sending the tire to you tomorrow afterall. If it can be repaired, I would only be driving on it for another couple months. I'm planning on getting new wheels soon anyways (or a second set - stocks) by Feb/March. I'll let you know tomorrow morning if I decide to do this. Thanks for the help Gdup.

-Gdup, I'm getting the tire replaced today. It costs more than to ship it to you for repairs, but its so much easier this way. If you want to check out the tire anyway, I can still ship it to you. Thanks for your help.

-Thanks everyone for chiming in.
