245/40R19 fronts?
245/40R19 fronts?
Has anyone ran 245/40R19 fronts? I see alot of people run 245/35R20s, which are just as tall and wide, with no problems. Would like to see how well a 26.7" front tire fills the wheel well...
Re: 245/40R19 fronts?
This would throw off the stagger. Many performance cars (the "Z", the "G" and the Vette to name a few and all exotics) have a stagger, front tires smaller in the outer diameter than the rears. This is built into the handling of our cars, and the electronics (VDC and ABS). It's really not a good idea to mess with the stagger. People with 20" tires really aren't interested in performance, they are intrested more in looks. IMO, 18s are the best size as far as looks and functionality goes. I have a set of Nismos (8.5" X 9.5") 245/40 front and 275/40 rear. These retain the stagger, look good, and handle very well. Tires are Dunlop SP9000s. Please no flames from you 20 inchers out there.

Re: 245/40R19 fronts?
lowrider or anyone,
If I will use thesame rim size for all 4 which is 18x8.5 BUT I will use a stagger size tire 245 rear and 225 front, would this make a difference?

The stagger only applies to the coupe. The sedan wasn't designed for one, so don't build one in.
As far as 225 and 245 goes on an 8.5" rim. That would be fine, that is the stock stagger, except the rim is 8" all around. I'm assuming your speaking of a 225/45 and 245/45. Since the rims are 8.5" you could also use a 245/40 and 255/45 (this is what I would recommend). These will all work and maintain the stagger. (On the Coupe) Oh, I'm also asuming your offsets are reasonable. BTW, for tires I like Dunlop SP9000s.

Re: 245/40R19 fronts?
If you go with a 285/35/19 rear instead of the 275/35 this would help...the stagger would remain and you would fill the wheelwell more in the process - if the % difference between the front and the rear stay relatively similar, you will not have any issues...
Re: 245/40R19 fronts?
You know everything I said above, I was thinking he was running 18s. With 19s he would need to take the aspect ratio down by 5. Thus 245/40, would be 245/35 and so on. As far as a 285 or 275, I would not run those on an 8.5" rim, he would have severe tire buldge. 255/40s would be the maximum tire width I would run with an 8.5". So I guess I'm saying run a 245/35 up front and a 255/40 in the back.

Yes, I'm sure they'll fit. Spec sheets say, rim range 8"-9.5" with 9" being optimal. 8.5" will be fine with 255/45/18. For the front however, I'd recommend 245/40s although 245/45s will work. the stagger will be .4" of an inch if you go with the 245/45 - 255/45 combo. Tough call here.
BTW, look at Dunlop SP9000s. A great tire.
