Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

Yo guys,
This was my second attempt painting my calipers red, the first time was a disaster because my friends jack broke. So I went and bought a $30 floor jack which came with two stands so I could boost two wheels and paint them at the same time.

So after I boosted my first two wheels I was all set to take off my rims so I could paint my calipers red. Then I ran into a big problem, I couldn't take my caps off of my rims to expose where the lugs were. I was about to give up on my calipers for the second freakin time when my buddy and I decided to just try painting the calipers with the rims still on.

My rims actually has big gaps between its spokes making it possible . So every time we needed to get a better angle or a hard to reach place on the calipers we just spun the rim a little and when the paint would drip on the rim we would easily just wipe it off.
After 4 hours, we were done. I don't know if the four hours was worth it but im happy its all over. here's some pics ....

So what do you do if you, god forbid, have a flat?

Re: Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

I bought the caliper paint kit for $42 on ebay and the floor jack for $20, but you could use your stock jack and your lug wrench to take your tires off that comes with your G. The only equipment you need really is the kit because it comes with everything you need to paint them. I recommend you paint your calipers but only if you have time and take off your wheels, my way was a pain - Danny

$42 for your paint kit! Wow, what in the kit? I paid $6 CDN for my can of VHT Caliper paint that I got 6 coats on all 4 calipers. My hats off to you though. Good job doing the painting without wheel removal.

Re: Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

I think the kit was called G2, and it came with the red paint with a reactor, a brush, cleaning spray can to clean the calipers and some other junk. I was going to buy the $10 spray can but I heard it would be easier just to use the kit with brush set because then I wouldn't have to remove my calipers off of my rotor. what color did you paint yours???

Lowrider has a point bro. How do those caps come off when you need to change wheels/tires/brakes/fluid/check bearings etc etc?

Re: Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

you guys made a good point, I have to call Axis and ask if i can get a set of keys so i can twist off the caps, i was only able to twist off one, so in the meanwhile if do get a flat hopefully it will be on that wheel

Re: Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

This may sound stupid... but if you take off your wheels to paint the calipers
don't you need to get them realigned? which would cost like $80

Re: Painted my calipers without removin the wheel PICS

No, re-alignment isn't necessary just because you take off your wheels.... I was going to get into the technical aspects but I'm too tired right now... someone chip in please.

Bigsmasher:

I didn't take my calipers off. I just spent a lot of time masking off to make sure I got all the areas. I think I was one of the first here to paint mine (back in May).
