Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
Hey guyz,
I am looking into getting the Volk SF challenges. Size 18 or 19s. Anyone of you want to tell me what dimensions i should get? I would prefer to get them all the same so i can rotate them since i drive so much. I WANT A BIG LIP on those rims! SUGGESTIONS!!
Any suggestions on brand of tires too.(Nothing too expensivo)
THanks

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
Easiest thing to tell you is to get 45mm offsets on 8" wide rims and to run 245mm or 235mm tread widths.
I think their are lots of good tires to choose from. Do you want summer or all-season?

Gsedan35,
If the rims are 8.5" wide and an offset of 35mm with 245mm tires, will this stick too far outside the fender as to prevent lowering or heavy loads in the rear?
Thanks,

yes it will
look at the pic of an 8.5" 38 offset. They stock out of thefender 8 mm. You wanna get 8" in th efront (38oofest) and 45 offset 9" in the back

gurgenpb,
Will 8.5" rims in a 45mm offset remain inside the fender and have the proper clearance near the suspension components on the inside of the wheel? The wheels I am considering are only offered in a 8.5" width.
Thanks,

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
see this post. We discussed it all in great detail. With 38 offset 8.5 wheels, as was quoted, inside of the front wheel is very very close to the upper suspension arm (so close that you can't insert your finger). It's in teh post. So for the sedan, you have to go with 8" +35 to +40 offset and you will be safe. In teh rear, as the guys said, you have extra 1-1.5 " on the inside,s o take that into account also. i would advise you look at this offset calculator. 7" and +45 are our stock 17" rims specs.
If you plug in the values for 8.5 ad +38, you will see that the wheels extends an extra 12 mm to the inside. This, if oyu can't put you finder in there, I reckon you have no more than extra 3 mm to be safe. So play around with it, and make sure to picka size for the front that does not extend more than 15 mm to the inside. That's why 8" +35 is a good way - extends 23mm out and 3mm in. For the rear, I am going with 9" +45 offset ANS AM STILL very SAFE in the back. (extend +25 in/out)
Check it out.

gurgen,
from those posts, i have not been able to figure out what the safe offsets are for 8.5 inch front wheels. It looks like 38 will fit, but I could not tell if any fender interferance is apparent. Do you think a 35mm offset would fit?
Thanks, brandon

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
I think tat the simple truth is that if you wat ot be safe, you really have to go with 8" wide wheels. But then again, our friend on the other post took a picture of the rear wheel. So, for the front I a not sure how it looks. Assuming the same amount of leap-off at the front fender and that you only have less than a finger's width worth of room on the inside, I think the most extreme you can go with on an 8.5" rim is +40, maybe +42 (the latter one is 4mm further inthan the+38, I would strongly advise you to try a wheel at the wheel sjhop witht hat offset before buying.
The rear, you can go wider, probabably 9 or 9.5. I would go with 9. But I pretty much decided on the wheel (the SSR GT1 - single piece - very light) and they only come in 8 ad 9 widths. With a 9.5" wide wheel (according to the wheel caclulator) you are gonna need a +51 offset to match the extension of the 8.5 +38 wheel: +12/+26 (inside/outside). The again, you have to see it for your self. I alsor ememeber seeing a 9.5" +45 rear wheel a whiule back posted that had a perfect fit (who is that person, it wasa a white sedan in a driveway - post again please).
Hope this helps

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
so for my sedan lowered on 350Z suspension, i can only get 18x8 inch rims!!! that sucks. they are gonna look like bike tires.
but, what do wider rims do anyways? and what does staggering do anyways? is it all just for looks?

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
not necessarily IMO. My car is lowered as well. It is just a matter of picking a high number (less aggressive) offset to fill the inside of the wheel well as there is quite a bit of room there.... rather than oush the wheel out as is made possible by the coupe's and z's wide fenders...

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
Somewhere in this section of the board the DiscountTire guy did a post where he lists all the various rim width/offsets that should be used for the sedan.
-------------------------------------------------------
edit: Found it,...see the search button does work
Sedan fitments:
WIDTH OFFSET WIDTH
6.5 +30/+50 205/215
7.0 +30/+50 205/215/225/235
7.5 +33/+50 205/215/225/235
8.0 +38/+50 215/225/235/245
8.5 +45 235/245
REAR ONLY
9.0 +55 245/255
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, running less than 40mm offset in the front and any width wider than 225mm is asking for rubbing. Stick with 40mm or 45mm. Notice how 8.5" shows 45mm only.
On the rear 275mm can be run with 55mm offset and no rubbing issues, 3mm from fender lip and about a 1/4" from the suspenion.

Re: Suggestions for dimensions for Sedan
Thanks great post....
Is it 3mm from the inside edge of the fender lip? If so, we can probably get away with another 10mm leap off (the width of the lip I assume) by rolling the lip up a little.
EDIT: Punching these numbers into teh calculator gives the following extension units: +15mm out, +35 mm in on a 9" rim in teh back. It is VERY HELPFUL to know that we have +35mm on the inside. I have been looking for this value for a while.
So if my calulation is correct, and we can roll the fender, the perfect fit would be 9.5" +50 (27/37mm in/out extensions).
