D*mn Michelins!...Oh well

Well, I had just barely had my 6mt coupe for 2 months last week and have already gotten a flat tire!? I was on the way to the airport for my flight to Phoenix (went to Vegas for the first time a couple days later) and was barely a mile from the parking lot when, after making a typical right-turn, the back end of the car starts wobbling and I immediately smell something burning ("%^$%^&*&^!"), so I pull over and the left-rear tire is flat as a pancake. What's worse is the fact that it was a dark 2-lane road at 5:30am and thought I was going to get hit a few times while putting on the spare. TG I didn't miss my flight... Once I got back, I went to the dealer and discovered that there was a half-inch slice in the INSIDE part of the sidewall--obviously not repairable and nobody can figure out what caused it. Sure enough, it wasn't covered and I had to pay $295+tax for a new tire. At least they didn't charge me for mount/balance and they washed the car for me, but I KNEW I shoulda bought the tire protection coverage; 'learned the hard way. I think I'm gonna buy it now, but I'll have to pay the whole $275 up-front. The good thing is that it's good for 3 years and also covers any damage to the rims that results from any tire failure...

The bright side though is that I made it to my destination and made it back safely. A little more debt is nothing, I suppose, when I realize how bad some others have it (my ex told me, the day before this stupid, petty incident, about her friend who just lost his father, then his brother OD'd on prescription drugs the next week and didn't make it--just one example)...

Sorry if I was long-winded, but I just wanted to point out that sometimes these things like this that stress us out really aren't that big of a deal and you gotta keep things in perspective (hard thing for me to realize, sometimes).

Fldrummer, Sounds like a tough time you're having lately. No fun. Things will improve, hang in there.
The new tire you bought will have Road Hazzard Warranty on it for any future problems (pro-rated to tread depth tho).
If the tire/wheel protection package covers wheels too, then that would be a good deal, and should also cover the wheel you just reshod.
Keep your chin up bro. Things could always be worse.

The TIRE package that I bought from Grubbs is only $195 for 3 years. I have had one of my Michelins replaced since. It more than paid for itself .

I had a sidewall incision on mine too. $325.00 mounted and balanced....The damage was done intentionally in my work parking lot I believe. I did not think that the tire warranty covered acts of vandalism. I was not offered the road hazard insurance at time of purchase of the car, but my new tire has it. Ha.

Actually, gsedanman, it wouldn't cover the scrape on my rim, because it's not severe enough; it has to be bad enough to where the it's deformed enough not to seal/keep air pressure in the tires, unfortunately. The funny thing was that the finance director at the dealer advised me (mum's the word) that if I hit a curb and ruin the wheel, don't tell them that 'cuz they wouldn't cover that (d'uhh); rather tell them you hit a pothole; LOL! Pretty cool of the guy to do that though.
