How do you know what wheels work with tire pressure sensors?

One of the interesting things I've noticed is that a lot of folks who changed to custom wheels have non-functioning tire pressure monitoring systems...ie driving around with the light on the dash.

Is there anyway to tell which custom rims will allow proper fitament for the sensors? If I'm correct, the sensors are located within the air chamber of the tire - attached to the wheel. Looking at Tirerack's selection of wheels, most of their wheels they have, have a OE sensor required designation, meaning you can properly transfer your sensors.

Is it a size issue of the wheels or based solely on the wheel's design and if the sensor can physically fit?

^^^ It's not so much the size, it's the design and location of valve stem outlet.
I'm running 20's and my TSW's accomodate my oem TPSM's.
Heard of some ppl banding their TPSM's on the inside when their aftermarket wheels can't use the TPSM stem. They just have normal steel stems with their TPSM's banded inside.
If that a pain, just go with wheels that state they will work with TPSM's.

yep, banding seems to be popular..dont let a good
rim change your mind..you could always put electrical
tape on the dash j/k

Pick the rims you like and ask if the TPMS will work with them. My Maya's won't work with TPMS because the valve stem comes through the rim closer to the center of the rim. I banded (really F1 Motorsports) the sensors inside the rims. Just make sure when you remove the rensors from your stock rims. you note from which wheel they came and insert them into the same new wheel. LF to LF, RF to RF, etc.
