Need help ASAP

hey guys, if you saw my thread in the picture share forum, you'd know that i just dropped my car w/ some Ark coilovers, so obviously they would have to remove the wheels to install the parts.

Here's my problem: ever since the install, the lugs on the front drivers wheel keeps coming loose

I took it back to the shop (i was only a block away, when i noticed the wheel shaking really bad, not to mention a very obvious knocking/thumping sound from said wheel), and they retorqued all the lugs on each wheel...i forgot how much they torqued it down to, in the 100s or so??? BTW: This happened yesterday afternoon.

fast forward to today, the same thing happened again, to the exact wheel. I just tightened it as much as i can (i don't have a torque wrench, so i don't know how tight they are). My question is exactly why is this only happening to this wheel, and why is it still happening? I don't want to be driving 70mph on the freeway and have this happen.

thanks, JOHN

Wow . . . I have no idea what might be causing the wheel lugs to loosen on their own. The issue is isolated to only the one wheel, so you should check the lugs, wheel studs and that particular wheel for problems. Personally, I would not be driving my car until the issue was resolved, if that situation presented itself.

I trust you find a quick resolve to this potentially very dangerous problem. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem in the same wheel. Found out that the wheel studs were striped at the end just a few threads and the nuts weren't grabbing on all the way had them all replaced and everything s back to normal for about 3 months now.

i hope so too. The weird thing is that i was driving around on these same wheels for about 3 weeks, with no problem whatsoever. the problems started after i lowered the car. Think it might be stripped bolts, or maybe it needs to just be torqued down again?

Well if they torqued it down b4 and the problem came back. Id check your studs. And take it from there.

i just bought the bolts and did it my self. took me about 20min to do all 5 and bolts cost me about 10$ i believe from kragens. If you go to a shop your probably looking at about 50$ for everything or so.

Good point, if they really did overtorque them and threads could be stretched or fudged up. It might be a good idea to replace the studs.

two final questions: are these bolts a universal size, or are they vehicle make/model specific? And how easy of a DIY job is this?

thanks for your help

John

It's either going to be the lugs or the studs. I would start with the lugs first, it's less money for ya.

If this happened when you got lowered it was prob the dudes when they took the wheels off and put them back on.

I would take care of this real quick.

Defective Stud..........

Can we assume you had the coilovers installed? Someone using a impact gun
did a number on your studs.....just have them replaced. Once this is corrected don't let anyone install your wheels with anything but a torque wrench at 85 lbs. Impact guns are also the main reason brake disc's are
warped.....same problem

yeah, i had them installed....no tools + home remodeling = no garage space whatsoever.

So I guess i'll go get some studs tomorrow and go to my mechanic to have him put the studs in. would it be wise to get some new lugnuts while i'm at it?
