Hey all,

I blew one of my rear OEM tires last night so it's time to replace them both. I've heard of some on this forum running 275/40/18's in place of the 245/45/18's the come with the G.

I've heard of safety issues running this size tire since the OEM rims are only 8" wide. But I've also heard that this "safety issue" may be more of a general recommendation than a technical requirement.

In any event, if I do decide to go with 275/40/18 on the rear, will it throw off my VDC?

Thanks,
B

Yeah I've heard of some people running these tires on the 18x8 G35 rims too. Just wondering if there will VDC problems. Sounds like there won't though...

Even for 8.5, a 275 width is out of manufacturer's specs. It will work, but hasn't been tested for cornering and high speeds in those configurations. Use at your own risk.

As long as you stagger appropriately (same outside diameter as stock for front and rear), the VDC will be fine. If you keep this ratio, but change the sizes, then the speedo will be off but the VDC will be fine.

For example for my setup: 295/35/18 and 275/35/18 I use 10.5" and 9.5" rims for rear and front respectively.
