yes I'm running a 285/30/20 on a 10" wheel. the fit is pretty good, there's a little bulge in the sidewall to protect the wheel from curbing. the specs for my tires are 9.5" to 10.5" wheel for safe mounting so 10" is right in the middle.

IMO, unless you are autocrossing, go with what looks good to you.

BTW ... you can easily chop more rotating mass by going to a BBK!
Yeah...I want to check these out too. See what their designs look like. I've been hearing so many nice things about them.

Sorry for the confusion ... BBK = Big Brake Kit. Not a wheel manufacturer.

Big brake kits usually utilize aluminum hats with 2 piece rotors vs one piece all steel rotor/hat combination. This allows for lighter rotating mass and unsprung weight.

This is a very expensive upgrade just to save some weight.

I don't know why I got that confused with something like another brand of wheels lol.

When you say expensive what are we talking here?

BBK's usually go from 2500 for the front only and up

Damn that's alot! Other than increasing stopping power over stock, how much weight reduction are we talking here?

Would it be worth the 2500 or 5000 (assuming we're looking at both front and back) just to reduce the weight the extra wheel size produces?

255/30/20 and 285/30/20 is what I'm running. Would rather go 265/295 though...

I was talking to the product manager at StopTech about this exact question recently. They weighed the stock front rotor from a Dodge Viper which came in at around 27 pounds. Their two piece rotor for that car is around 18 pounds. Remember too that additional weight is reduced by the caliper change as well, since the ones on BBKs are made of aluminum instead of steel.

They'll have data for the 2007 G35 shortly.

I have 20x10 DPE GT7 with 285/30/20 BFG KDWT. here's a pic of how the tire fits on the wheel.

DH how would you rate the acceleration/braking ride and drive performance with the current setup you have now vs how it was stock?

And what were some of the major differences you noticed when you first drove with this setup vs how it was before? Can I ask you one more question....how is your gas mileage compared to stock like did it drop, did it go up or stay about the same?

before we get into weight of wheels.. does it really matter that much, unless your a track car. who cares if its 5 pounds heavier! you gain like 0.0001 of a second in the 1/4? LOL, i guess u get a extra mile per tank on your gas also.

I guess that answers that. Thanks for the gas heads up Johnson I'll make sure to be on the lookout at the pump

acceleration is a little slower, it's very noticeable right off the bat but you'll get used to it. I didn't time it or anything but I'd say it's about equivalent to when I put on my test pipes (straight pipe instead of catalic converters) must be around 10hp or so.

braking is noticeably less too, it takes more effort to slow the car down.

ride it a little bit more rough, you can really feel every little pebble in the road but it seems to take pot holes in stride.

gas mileage went down maybe 0.5mpg.

all in all performance, ride and economy were sacrificed for looks.

DHC, thanks for the quick and informative response. This is what I was looking for. I just wanted to find out an example of how it could be and what to consider when upgrading the wheels to a larger size beyond 19".

DH Are you running 20x 10 (285/30/20) all around or staggered? And
i would assume these are the forged wheels people have been raving about as far as being light etc? Do you know their weight off hand the website doesn't have it listed.

BTW Tirerack has your 285/30 BFG tires weighing around 31 lbs a piece. Don't know if it helps but just wanted to put that out there
