245 width tires on 8" wide wheels?
245 width tires on 8" wide wheels?
I am looking into fitting 245/40/19 on my sedan or 245/45/18 (for 18s or 19s respectivly.)
Will the tire be too wide for the wheel? Will it cause a "snake bite?"
I referred to THX's thread, but am unsure as to the practicallity of tires that wide.

That is fine. 245's will fit on an 8" wide rim.

Re: 245 width tires on 8" wide wheels?
The first week I got my G35, I swapped the OEM 225/45-18 Pilot Sports for 245/40-18's. The 245's fit so tight, the difference really isn't noticeable. An 8" wheel is the normal wheel for a 245 tire. Mustang GT's and Cobra's OEM wheels are 17x8.0" with 245's. F-bodies have been using 245/50 tires on stock 16x8.0" wheels for over 15 years.

Re: 245 width tires on 8" wide wheels?
I'd like to go with 8" all around so that I can rotate. How come there's no 8" for the rear on your graph? Why would one get wider rears? Just more rubber on the road?

Re: 245 width tires on 8" wide wheels?
Yes, basically. It gives it a staggered look, and it looks more aggressive. People usually like more rubber in the rear for better traction. In the graph, you can just extend the line from the rear fenders up (Print it out), and it will be accurate. I just put the rear fender dotted line for those wheels because they are more commonly used in the rear.
