Best Tire For Tread Life and Wet Traction?

EVeryone says these pilot sports don't last very long and i cant afford new tires every 20k miles, so does anyone know what type of tires have the best tread life and good wet road traction?

Goodyear Eagle F1. But they're going to cost you as much or more than the Pilots. Check out Tirerack.com. They have a good chart that lists all the tires and how they rated for wear, traction, noise, etc.

According to Tirerack the Goodyear is about $50.00/tire cheaper than the Pilot.

DO NOT BUY Goodyear Eagle F1's if you are looking for a tire with Wet traction. I had the F1's on '01 camaro ss.(standard equipment)...terrible wet weather traction.I also had them on my '96 camaro and hydroplaned when Ididn't know much about these tires. I didn't keep those tires very long on the SS before I finally changed them. To be honest, the best tire I ever used for wet/dry traction was the Firestone Firehawk's SZ50EP. But I don't think they make the size for your g's. I was so amazed at that tire in weather.

Good Year Eagle F1's rating...look at the comments and wet traction..only 5.9 wet traction.

Firestone Firehawks

And since they do make these for our G's I would get the Bridgestone's as mentioned above:

But please don't get the eagle F1's.. they are dangerous in the rain on rwd cars.

I'm nut sure if the S-03's meet your long-life criteria. I had a set on my S2000 and they lasted about 15K miles on the rear. If you drive hard, they won't last. They were great handling tires though.

I have SO3s on my G, too. They handle great, but I need a new set every 20,000 miles or so. I used to have Michelin Pilot ultra-high performance all-weather tires on my Maxima, and they lasted 50,000 miles+ everytime. I put three sets of them on that car while I had it, with over 180,000 miles on the odometer when it was totaled-out by a truck.

Don't quote me on this but I heard that they discontinued the Potenza SO-3. But I do know that Bridgestone has a better tire out now to replace it, the Potenza RE 750. It's supposed to have the same traction but better tire wear.

Okay, we won't quote you.

Where'd you hear that? TireRack shows the RE750 as an "ultra-high performance summer" tire, which is a step below "max performance summer" where the S-03 resides. Doesn't seem like a likely replacement to me. Not to mention it's not available in nearly as many sizes as the S-03.

Re: Best Tire For Tread Life and Wet Traction?

Could be a reference to the S-02 Pole Position tire. They were discontinued and replaced by the S-03 PP. You can probably still get some OEM model S-02's though.

Interesting note about (some) OEM tires: on my S2000, the rear OEM 225 series tire was the width of a typical 245 series. Never made sense.

Re: Best Tire For Tread Life and Wet Traction?

Eagle GS-D3 is totally crap in handling section oh yea.. they sux in wet traction too. The side wall flex like crazy so it'll make u feel like u r riding on jell-o. It just flex sooo much that u gonna wondering u have a flat tire. Only good thing about this tire is that it's quiet and last longer than other brands. I highly don't recommand this tire if handeling is important to you.

Re: Best Tire For Tread Life and Wet Traction?

Rspec,

Are you sure you know what you're talking about? Have you ever owned a set, or are you just giving an opinion based on nothing? I have a set that use as daily drivers AND I even autocrossed on them for almost a year as well. They handle great on dry pavement and they're the best wet traction tire I've ever owned. Look at reviews from hundreds of people on tirerack.com and you'll see that most people that have owned these tires agree.
