2005 G35 Coupe Winter Tire Question

I am 1 week into owning my new toy! It is an 05 coupe with I think all options/packages. It has 19" oem wheels. I am in IowA and need to get a set of winter wheels. I have been reading this forum for days and am confused??

I would like to just put on 17" rims with blizzak tires.
I think I will be OK with 225/50/17 in front and 225/55/17 in rear to keep the stagger. What has me confused is the rims. Can I put 17" on a coupe outfitted with 19" OEM's. Will they clear the brakes, etc??? '05 did not have brembo's but my front caliper is huge. Please help?

You shouldn't have any problem with the brake clearance with 17's if I can fit them on my 04 with Brembos. Check tirerack.com for a selection of 17's that will fit. And 225/50-17 and 225-55-17 should be a good tire size. That's what I run.
