Question Winter Wheels Offset question!! pls help!!

Hey everyone,

I’ve done numerous searches online, on this forum and 6MT to try and find the correct answers, but it seems like information is a little hard to come by.
I’ve somewhat put off the purchase of winter tires and wheels for my brand new 07 G35 Coupe until i got back from my sister’s wedding in England, and here i am and cold weather is definitely around the corner here in Ontario.

I am trying to purchase a set of wheels and tires online – had fantastic experiences with Toyo Garit HT’s in the past and think i’ll repurchase with a set of Garit KX. Guess that was the easier part.

Now – many owners lean towards 17 inch setups, which suit my needs perfectly. However, what offset of wheels do you select? I’ve been having issues trying to get anyone I speak to find a set of 17s that will fit properly. If i’m spending 1600 CAD on a set of wheels and tires, they better fit.

I have been told ideally the fronts should be between 30-35mm, and 35-42 was very questionable. 45 definitely will not clear the callipers. They did not have enough experience with having my particular car come through their shop to know what would and wouldn’t clear. Could anyone confirm this?

Could someone please, please help me out and let me know what offsets will and won’t work. Any experiences, help, somewhere i could possibly call for a wheel and tire quote online and so on. I’m getting a bit desperate and stressed out.

So far, i have quoted 1010 Tires, Tire Trends, Tire Rack (only do Blizzaks) and some place called Tires Easy.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Its hard to tell if the wheels will clear based on offset alone. Its a factor of both offset and wheel design. While some people have had issues with high offset wheels, my setup for winter wheels on my 06 coupe with the same brakes is a set of 03 17" sedan OEM wheels, which are 17x7+45. A very high offset and very tucked, yet I still clear the calipers easily.
