Installed Stillen 2-pc Big Brake Kit today!

Ever since I got my new wheels, the OEM rotors have looked too small. Then the front rotors wore-out prematurely, which provided a good excuse to replace them with an aftermarket big brake kit. (Warranty? I don't need no STINKING warranty!) I ultimately decided to buy a Stillen [front] Big Brake Kit.

The installation includes 14.25" slotted/drilled rotors, 6-piston calipers, stainless steel brake lines (front & rear), and Motul synthetic brake fluid. (Note: While the car was up in the air, the front and rear sway bars were adjusted up one notch --front and rear-- to full stiffness.)

First impressions? Relax! I have yet to push the new brakes hard, of course. I followed the manufacturer's recommended bedding/breaking-in procedure:

Accelerate to 55 mph, then apply easy brake pressure to bring the car down to 30 mph.
Repeat this "on/off" cycle in sets of 5 for the first ten miles of travel.
For the next 100 miles, use easy braking, avoiding full stops from 70 mph+. (I am currently this far along in the process.)
For the next 100 miles, gradually increase braking pressure.
After that, the gloves are off!

The brakes look great, and fitment is no problem. There is about a finger-width of space between the top of the caliper and the inside surface of the wheel. There is also about a finger-width of space between the front of the caliper and the backside of the wheel spokes. The distance from the outside edge of the rotor to the inside surface of the wheel is about 1". It fills the space inside the wheel quite nicely, with no need for spacers. Did I say the new installation looks great? It looks great!

It'll probably be a couple weeks or so before I'm going to feel like a full-on 60-0 brake test. After the pads wear-in, I'll try it, and let you know how they work.

Now the bad news: The rear rotors look like tiny little saucers now...
