General winter tires / wheels question

Hi all,

I just bought a G35 coupe (getting it delivered sometime in the next week or two!) and being that it is my first car, I'm kind of overwhelmed....

I've done some searches regarding tire sizes, and am kind of confused with all the different sizes on 2004 vs. 2005 coupes, "offsets", etc. etc.

I was wondering if someone could spell out for me what tires I should be looking for? I am interested in 17" winter tires, and have a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT (sport suspension is standard on that model I believe).

Thank you in advance for all your help!

CalgaryG......Welcome to the boards....

The 04 model year came with 17"s and Optional 18" which was standard on the 6MT w/ Brembos.

The 05 model year came with 17"s,18"s and 19"s........Most opted for the 19"

For winter tire setups...most go with the 17" for a couple of reasons. One, they have the most sizes to fit the coupe....And are reasonably priced....
Two, The larger sidewall helps in improving traction in snow/ice.
Three, 17" rims are less expensive as well

Ideally, you would want to stick with the staggered set up, so getting 225/50/17 front and 235/50/17 rear is what is recommended.

You could also run 4 of the same size, losing the stagger, but adding the ability of rotating the tires each season.

I went with the latter. I did four 225/55/17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3's, with ASA KA3 aftermarket wheels......

Blizzaks are also widely used for the coupe as well....

Good luck with your choices....

I run 225/50-17 front and 225/55-17 rear for the winter and it works well, though you obviously lose the ability to rotate. But these are almost dead on to the OEM 18" wheel/tire diameters.

Hello GR8TG35,
I am in the middle of installing 4 17"ASA KA3 and cannot get the wheels flush up against the car.

There is a sixth 'bolt' sticking out of the wheel pattern that seems to not let the wheel sit flush against the car.

I am not sure of the offset. I tried the search with no luck.

Do I need spacers?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
