Those of you that have repaired your stock 18's
Those of you that have repaired your stock 18's
I'm sure as you all know, rim scratches are a big pain in the butt. I just got my 18 back from the repair shop and I think it looks like crap. They look more like a matte grey with a gloss coat on top vs. the reflective aluminum/light gunmetal look. You know what I mean. Anyways, for those of you that have had your rims repaired, how close it your color match? If you put your repaired rim next to a brand new one, can you tell the difference? Or am I just paranoid and strare at my baby all day long and notice every little imperfection?!?!? Sigh.

Re: Those of you that have repaired your stock 18's
crash
I messed my rim back in Dec., And I checked around with alot of rim repair places before I went ahead and fixed it.
Almost everyone told me that they cannot match the factory paint exactly, and if you were to fix only one, you would be better off doing both rims on that side so you could not see any difference........I was thinking "YOU MUST BE KIDDING" yeah...I'll repaint a perfectly good rim so now two rims won't match on my car!
Seems the paint in Japan is still lead based which gives that titanium deep finish to it....Nobody in the US can or will use Lead paint anymore...so your out of luck there.
However, they can match it pretty well....I had a place by me do my repair, they are located in Neptune, N.J. and the name is ALLOY WHEEL SPECIALISTS.
I had the repair done thru my dealership, This way I didn't have to wait to ship it out and get it back...the repair was done in 5hrs, and I got a loaner car to boot!
I had a pretty bad scuff on the lip only part of my rim about 12" long....
They fixed only the scuffed part, and did not paint the whole rim over, which to me would be harder to do as far as matching,
I was so surprised to see how good a job they did...under real sunny situations I can just barely see the slight difference in the texture of the paint....but the color is pretty much dead on.
I think they could have done a better clear coat, it doesn't seem as smooth as the rest of the rim...however, it was done in the dead of winter here and the salt probably took its toll a little on the paint when it was new.
Sorry to ramble,, this is a pet peeve of mine, nobody seems to be able to repair/fix these rims to stock condition...and who wants to spend $900 for a new rim every time we scuff the rims...
hope this works out for you...I'm pretty much glad I went the route I took and would use them again if I had to...2old4this
