Get XL rated or not?

Michelin PS2's come in 245/35/19 93Y or 93Y XL load rated.

What's the difference and for the G, which would you choose? Since these already have a high load rating, do we need the XL variety?

Will the XL affect handling in any way? I don't know what the structural difference is between the two.

Thanks

My guess would be the XL's for a higher load rating and thus have stiffer sidewalls. The can help with performance but also lead to a harsher ride

If you can obtain tire load graphs you will see significant advantages in increasing load index vs static load as the slip angles are lower in stronger tire.

OEM selects tires where the static load is 75-80% of peak load [sidewall max weight load] so that under panic braking the tire will not be overloaded.

In this case BMW XL requires an thicker strengthening ply that adds 1 pound to tire.

Only Michelin knows the secrets contained therein both use same 50 psi max.

If extreme durabilty is what you want go with the $1 cheaper BMW special tire.
