question about 20's

does anyone know how the the ride is for 20's. i know it will be rough but is it that big of a difference. ive been told that its not a good idea to put them on because of the size of the tire itself. anyone have any input. thanks

Re: question about 20's

IMO, 20s are a bad idea. You'll loose the stagger and thus activate the VDC and slip lights. The ride will be rough, and the wheels vulnerable to damage. If you have a show car fine, for everyday driving, no.

Re: question about 20's

1. You don't loose the staggered tire sizing unless you choose to do so.
2. I have 20's and the ride is not at all rough on 245/35's (sedan)
3. I drive everyday on 20's and have no problems.

Re: question about 20's

The sedan tire/wheel combo is not staggered. The correct Coupe Outer Diameters are, 25.7" front and 26.7" rear. No One makes a 20" tire with that small an OD for the front tire/wheel combo in a 20" size. BTW the sedan comes with a tire/wheel combo that is 26.2" in OD, the 245/35/20s are 26.5" in outer diameter, not to far off from the original. So:

1. With a Coupe, you do in fact loose the Correct Tire Stagger if you choose to run 20s.
2. If you choose to run 20s on a sedan, gdupg made the correct choice.
3. If you drive them every day, more power to you.

damen, I do know what to say to you, but Sanity and the rules of the forum prevent me from saying it. So, I guess I'll just say, you are not a very smart or wise person.

Lou

Re: question about 20's

You may loose the "factory stagger" on the coupe, correct. However, there are quite a few members that do run 20's on the coupe that don't have any issues with VDC.

The thing to remember is that it is not the wheel diameter that makes for a rough ride, it is the profile/series of the tire.

Just a basic example is my 96 Accord that had 215/35/18's compared to my G35 Sedan that has 245/35/20's. Although I have 20's, the taller sidewall makes for the better ride in comparison to the Accord I used to own.

After replacing a strut that was bad (installed by a retard), my G sedan rides very nicely on 20's, and takes bumps quite well.

Re: question about 20's

I have no problems with this setup.

I forget what size tires but either way the ride is great no complaints. The VDC still works perfect and the Nav was not affected at all. So I'll ride 20's all the time and hope for the best.

Lou,

Stock front is 225/45/18 which comes out to 25.97" , rear you have correct. And yes, there are 20" tires to match this diameter. Check out the Nitto NT 555 225/35ZR-20. This will give you an OD of 26.20" which is approx. 1% larger than stock

Re: question about 20's

Not to disagree with you, but the Michelin Pilot Sport Outer Diameter is 25.8" for the 225/45/18 size. Nitto does in fact make a 225/35/20 that is 26.2" OD that is .4" larger than stock, and is probably close enough to the stock height not to upset the electronics. Wasn't aware that someone made a tire that size. Tire Rack doesn't list it, but Discount Tire does, though they are out of stock. I would worry about the load carrying capacity of such a tire, and it's effect on wear, and the safety of the wheel. Remember your only talking about 3" of sidewall height here. But, if it makes you happy, than I'm happy. And yes, I guess I was wrong, there is a tire out there in a 20" size close enough to the stock OD, as to not cause problems with the VDC and slip.

BTW, damen what research did you do? If you had sent me a PM, I would have sent you one, I replied on the forum the way you have replied to me, twice now, in a very negative fashion.

Re: question about 20's

i only replied in a negative fashion because at the time you spoke of something and was inaccurate. after later research on your part you see that some of us are right, that going with 20's doesn't upset the VDC or through off your ride. my ride with 20's is just as comfortable as my stock 18's. obviously i've done enough research to know that there would not be a problem going with 20's. people on the board don't love the look of my car and give me compliments for nothing. and i've thanked everyone for it. i've even helped some get wheels and offered my advise to some on getting wheels so i must know something.

i'm done with this going back and forth with you. like you said "if i'm happy with 20's, your happy" good to hear and lets leave it at that. good luck with whatever you get, it's your ride and as long as it looks good to you is all that matters.

Re: question about 20's

I haven't heard of anyone (coupe of sedan) choosing the 225/35/20" Nittos. I would be concerned about the load rating as well. I think the 245/35's are about as low of a profile as one should run without running into problems.

There are numerous members of this board that run the 245/35/20's in the front without upsetting the vdc.

If you are truly concerned about maintaining the exact stagger, you can run 19's in the front and 20's in the back, but it's really not necessary.
