20" Questions

I have an '07 Coupe, not lowered yet, but will eventaully be. I found a seller trying to sell his rims, but he doesn't know the actual offset. This is what he states:

"I measured the offset on the wheels the following way... On the front rim, from the outside edge (the side that faces the street) to the mounting surface (the point where the rim is against the hub) is 4" and from the inside edge (the side that faces the rotors) to the mounting surface is 6". On the rear wheels the offsets are 4.5" and 6.5". The widths are staggered, Front rims are 20" x 9" and Rears are 20" x 10"."

These are coming off his Mercedes SL55. Does this measurement make any sense to anyone? Please help if you can. Thank you all in advance.

His measurements are wrong.... 6+4=10 for the front....6.5+4.5=11

Maybe the he gave the wrong wheel widths?

if they are indeed 20x10 for the front and 20x11 in the rear...then according to the measurements...the fronts are about 25mm offset...and the rear is also 25mm offset

how? if the face of the mounting hub is exactly in the middle of the total width of the rim...then that's a 0mm offset. Since the front wheels midpoint would be 5inches...which is half of 10, and the measurement he gave you of 4 & 6...that would be 1 inch difference from the midpoint. Then just convert inches to mm.

BTW...mercedes has a different bolt pattern than the G's

it will not fit, mercedes is a 5x112 bolt pattern compared to our G's which are 5x114.3....unless his rims are dual drilled...also, make sure on the hub bore and offsets fit the G correctly...might as well get another set and save yourself the headache...there are alot of forum members selling rims at a great deal, you should check those out...GL

For anyone trying to find out offsets for the custom made forged wheels which doesn't tell you on the back of the wheel...this would be the way.

but i would measure to the closest 1/25 of an inch since 1mm is equal to about .04inch. Better yet, use the metric side of the of the ruler or tape to measure..usually in cm but do the conversion to mm later

Thank you all for your help. The seller states that his Benz should take 5 x 112's, but his actual pic shows the 5 x 114.3 stamped on the back of the rim (which would be right for me if the offsets are decent). Should this be something to worry about (damage on the rims because he had the wrong bolt pattern)?

I just remembered some things from back in my HS Auto shop days and days working at Wheel Works (please correct me if I'm wrong): If he measured from the outside edge, did he measure incorrectly, because IIRC, you're supposed to measure from the inside, where the bead forms. Assuming 1/2 inch from the inside of where the bead forms on the rim to the outside, there could be the extra 1 inch in his measurement.

And I do agree that I'd rather buy from someone on this forum, since the chances of the rims fitting are about a million times greater than taking a shot on ebay, but I rarely ever see the rims I want (Lowenhart BR5's) for sale, new or used, anywhere.

Here's another thing I probably should have asked earlier: minor curb rash on chrome rims... fix it, or forget it? If it's cheap enough, I'll fix it. Thanks once again.

well...some rims have 5x114.3 stamped or sticker on the back of the rim, but it may actually be a different bolt pattern. An example are volk wheels. On a few styles, they make 5x112, but they put the sticker on the back stating that they are 5x114.3.
If i were you though, i would look for some other rims, so many out there to choose from...
