Yokohama YK520 installed, thoughts
Okay, got a nail in the sidewall on one of the rear the Pilot Sports (UTQG 220) that came on the ride when I bought it. About 5/32 left on them so of course I replace both. Discount sells me hard on the YK520s, rotate side to side, lotta life, great grip, and so on. Long story short, I buy them and drive away. Now 2 days later I have some notes on 245/45-18:
Looks: Acceptable, nothing fancy, tread isn't great looking, sidewall is decent enough.
Handling: Everything seemed to be alright, didn't push it hard, but today just driving to work making the corners I always do, barely spirited I hit the first times ever I've gotten the SLIP and grind with foot on the gas, sliding around a bit. Wasn't expected and while I didn't love the Pilots, these Yokos aren't proving to be any good.
Will test further in an open parking lot, but likely these are going back soon. Thoughts?

The YK520's are NOT a sufficient tire to put on a G35, especially if you're not getting all 4. The YK520 is a performance All Season tire. If you do any kind of aggressive driving, even taking a turn or on-ramp a little too fast, you'll get a slip light. Especially when you only replace 2 of them. You're mixing a high grade michelin tire with a medium grade yokohama tire.
I'd go back to the store and tell them you are highly unsatisfied and they need to either refund you the full amount, including mounting and balancing, or they need to get you a suitable replacement pair of tires.
Seeing as how you're in Tuscon, you dont need an all-season tire and should be going with a high-performance summer tire. If you must have an all-season, make sure it is a high-performance all season tire. (I realize that yokohama says the 520 is a high performance all season, but it is anything but that)
They have many other tires in your size, my recomendations would be the Falken FK452 or Azeniz ST115.

I love the Falkens and had they been in stock I'd have gotten them. I was in a bind, needed it that day due to the nail. I'm either going Falkens or Eagle F1 A/S, which they have to order. Now that I have a few days they can get me what I need, and you're right, the 520 is not sufficient, no matter what they claim.
