Michelins Pilot Sports are too loud!!!

Hi all,

I have the Michelin Pilot Sports and they are almost worn out in the front (inside edge badly feathered and worn) I need to get an alignment and replace them. I am looking for a long life tire that is quiet! (I don't need performance, I have a 1970 Z with a 2.8L FI for that!) I have the 225/45 R18s in the front and the 245/45 R18s in the rear.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Joe

try falken 452's. Its a quiet tire with good tread ware and nice grip.

Oh, one other thing. I would like to go with the same tire on all corners and I would be interested in a tire that "pouches out" a little past the rims - that way it protects them from curb rash - any new suggestions?

I like the reviews on the falkens...

+1 on falkens...they are pretty quiet. however, 275 width falkens look stretched on a 10 inch rim

Wheels are the same width on your G, that's why the fronts look stretched at 225. I don't see many people going wider than 245 up front or 255 in the rear on stocks.

I just got nitto invo's about a 3 weeks ago. Great grip and they are nearly silent.

New tires are almost always quiet UNTIL, that is the problem getting any directional tire to be quiet after 10,000 miles

^ I realize that, but the nitto's are a non-directional tire.

Any tire on our Coupes will start to get very noisey when the miles pile on. What I've found with the Pilots has been that some owners are so pissed at the replacement cost, they have been running their tires past the recommended 2/32nds and thus the overwhelming road roar. I've experienced a set of Pilots on my freinds Coupe with 25,000 miles and let me tell you.... it was not pleasant. He relented and purchased a new set and they are quiet as a Church mouse. All our tires will be relatively quite when new, somewhat noisier between 7-10K and quite noisey after 15-20K depending on the brand. It goes with G35 Coupe ownership. Tire noise and wear and the cost of replacement is the #1 complaint and reason for 03-07 Coupe disenchantment.

So if I wanna run the same size in all four corners, should I run a 245/45?

And what is the story on the nittos - how much, where to buy?

Long life is a hard find. There are some nice tires with high treadwear and if you rotated, even mileage warranties. The RE960AS have a 40k warranty and some places will give it to you even if the sizes aren't 'allowed' All depends on your place of business. The Eagle F1 AS are 420 UTQG which is good in our sizes. I go Falkens at 300, not as much life, but good grip and good prices.

ANyone have experience with the Kumho Solus KH16? I had my girlfriends mom put these on her sedan and she seems pretty happy with them - probably not the sportiest tire out there....
