Lug nuts – McGard, Muteki, Rays?...

I have McGard locking lug nuts and ordered a set of spline drive back in March – apparently McGards plating processor isn’t working or something because the lug nuts are on extended back order…

I’m trying to find an alternative – only in black, black chrome or black anodized – and only some sort of deterrent style (like spline drive)…

So the question is – should I consider Muteki’s spline drive style? Or go with Rays (I think they have a grove in one of the sides)… I can get either of them pretty quick.

Or should I wait for the McGards?

i'd say go with rays, i was really happy with mine :)

Is there any vendors you can get the McGard ones from?

mcgard aint too great they make their keys pretty cheaply and if you crank it too hard it cracks like nothin

i just picked up some short rays in black i thought the only part that locks was that little line carved in, but the actual locking lug has a slightly obtuse egdge so regular sockets cant just fit over it... made me feel better haha

cant find anyone that has them or can get them faster... its a McGard delay so any vendor that can ship faster would have to have them in stock... I've looked and can not find - but would love it of someone could refer a vendor that has them in stock!

thanks for the referral - I checked the website and called them... they have a no-name brand of black spline drive in stock... I might consider that if I can’t find the McGards.

Thanks.

i got the mcGard spline drive gold chromes... pretty pricy tho... but I dont think anyone else on here has em...

OCG35 06-10-2008 03:09 PM

it turns out that Summit had 2 full kits in black chrome (the kit includes lug nuts, locks, and valve stems)... since I dont need the valve stems I ordered the locks (and received) and lug nuts separate...

Now I have ordered the kit and am returning the locks (since the kit has them in it)...

What a bunch of run-around BS just to get the gawd damn lug nuts!

Anyway - its done... and anyone thinking of these lug nuts might want to jump on Summits last kit (as long as you want locks, and valve stems too).

shabarivas 06-10-2008 04:47 PM

oh yea... about summit... they dont post what size they stock... so i was not sure if that would work.. but i guess you checked... they didnt have the gold ones anyways ...

+1 for the Rays. Really like the look; I got a set of black ones. Make sure you don't use an impact wrench on these though!

Hell NO!!!! If somene uses an impact wrench on my CE28Ns, I'll hit them over the head with the breaker bar they should have used!
