Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Which is the better setup for my 2004 6mt sedan with factory sports package? I would like to keep the ride close to stock but lower the car about an inch or so. The tein s-tech runs about half the price but that's not that much a concern. I just don't want to lose anything in the handling dept.
Thanks,

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
if you want a factory quality ride, either the 350z suspension or Koni adjustable shocks.
Or wait for the Tokico D-specs
Search on my350z.com for the shocks
the tein basics from what I hear are extremely firm
I had my money all ready to buy the tein basics, then the koni's came out and now I am waiting for the tokico's
konis and a near linear spring set are what I will probably buy unless the tokicos are that good

Actually I was just comparing the Z springs and shocks to just the Tein S-tech springs and using my factory sport shocks.

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Without question, on a sedan, the Z suspenson will be vastly superior in perfomance to Tein S-tech sedan springs, not a little different either, a lot better. Frankly even running the Z springs on the sedan sport shocks would be better. Ride quality would of course go to the S-techs as would all lowering springs for the sedan, they are all designed for comfort, trading performance aspects to get ride quality. The Z shocks have a lot more aggresive valving to them, turn in performance is a lot better as is the control of weight transfer on braking and acceleration. Inside wheel traction is also inhanced. Excess weight transfer is the bane of most lowering springs for the G35.
Tein S-tech sedan/coupe 358/274 +14%front -20%
Transfer's +34% roll stiffness to front of car. Where you shift roll stiffness is where you are asking the suspension to do more work, in this case the front, which will result in added understeer.

Hey Gsedan35,
I've given the issue some more thought. I agree that the Z stuff should be better from a pure performance standpoint. But I already have a pure sports car ( my Alfa, hence my username ). I really like the stiffness of the stock sport suspension, I just want my car lowered. Now do the S-tech springs make sense ? Any other suggestions oh Jedi master of the G ?
Thanx,

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
I recently came across this same decision. However, in my extensive experience modifying car suspension I decided to go with the OEM solution and go with the Z suspension.
First of all, I've yet to see OEM quality shocks and springs from an aftermarket supplier. Unless you're buying true coil-overs the shocks and springs were not designed for eachother. In this case, the Z suspension is mated for each other.
Also, I trust that the ride in an 04 350z is tolerable since it is an everyday car that needs to appeal both on a comfort and a performance standpoint. I would have to imagine Nissan would work for the perfect balance between performance and ride no their flagship sports car. I also have no conerns about fitment, warranty, quality, strange clunking noises, etc.
Not to mention my friend bought an 04 350z and said the ride is very nice. I'll be putting mine in sometime in the next couple of weeks, build date 12/28/04.
I heard the 350z springs are the same as teh G35c and only the shock differs. Thus, for me, the coupe struts may actually be a great choice for those more concerned about ride quality. I'm trying to investigate this further as I may be interested in the softer ride.
Can anyone comment about the G35c struts?

Where do Tein's CS and Flex fit in that comparison, Gsedan35?

I had a long conversation with one of the tech's at Tein about them just this friday. To make a long story short, they do use spring rates that are just a bit stiffer then oem and the dampners are valved for comfort, yet to work with those slightly stiffer spring rates at the same time. The CS would be a excellent choice for someone wanting a improvement in handling and the least change in ride quality. After much discussion the tech and I agreed the the CS system would not meet my needs because the valving would not be aggressive enough and revalving them would cost $600. I really like how they are a mono tube design however. BTW, I believe their's still someone on my350Z.com that's selling his CS coilovers for $1250 in the classfied's their.

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Another suggestion, would be to run Tein 350Z H-tech springs, whey would lower the sedan 1.3" and do not use the weak rear rates like the sedan S-tech's do. Only thing I'll caution about is that progressive springs tend to offer less turn in performance and more weight transfer. From what I have seen the Tein springs are linear in the rear however for Z and G applications.
Sedan S-tech's 358/274
Z H-tech's 358/375

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
You can get Koni sports for the G35. $730, single rebound adjustable. And Tokico is due to come out with their D-spec shock any time now, double adjustable to.
When we say we want a softer ride, are we saying we want it softer then the 04 Z suspenions just mentioned, or we want it softer than the way your sedan rides right now? Do you have the sport suspension or non sport right now?
Their is a post right now on my350z.com for coupe springs and shocks for sale.
Coupe struts are valved a lot milder then Z struts are. Coupe shock valving is said to mirror the sedan with sport. All Z's and all G's all use the same oem sway bars btw.

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Hi
I was searching through the forum and found your post regard to the s-tech. I have a sedan and looking to lower my car soon and still can't decide which spring to go for. I want a really nice drop but don't want to lose the comfort so is the s-tech the spring to go for? Anyways, what spring do you have on your car?

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
Based on what you want I would buy the Tein H-tech's first and foremost. Look for a ad on this board in the Parts/Accessories section placed by "Wil", he's selling a set.
I am currently evaluating a suspension setup consisting of oem sport shocks, 350Z front springs and oem rear sport springs w/cut down upper rear spring seats, but will soon be returning to 2003 350Z springs and shocks as soon as I can find the time.

Re: Tein S-tech or 04 350z suspension for 6mt sedan?
PM me for questions on best performance. there is some compromise given on the 2004 shocks for the Z that may compromise some track performance but give a much better ride onthe interstate.
Incidentally I am installing my 2003 Z suspension in the next week or so.
