Different size tires front to back?

I have an 07 coupe running OEM 17's... It is time to replace rear tires.

Factory tries are:

Front: 225/50/17
Rear: 235/50/17

When looking at tires at Discount, there is not a huge selection of 235/50/17 tires... what I am wondering is if I can go with 235/45/17 in the rear and still keep the factory 225/50/17 up front as those tires are still in great shape. Will the difference in size harm handeling, traction control system? If I decide to change tire height, should I do it all the way around and if so, is it better to go with 35,40,45? Sorry, search didn't help me much!

Thanks for your input!

Aaron

bad idea, that tire is shorter than the front tire and can lead to vdc issues. Stick to the OEM tire size

I thought I had read that the shorter tire would affect vdc, but wanted to make sure.... just looked like performance/wear/reviews of the shorter (45) tire were better than the 50's... Really trying to focus on tread wear as a primary concern... discount recommended Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge (http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...=009115%7C2007) at $187 a tire... Some reviews of this tire were good, some not so good... any other suggestions?
