Orange Electronics TPMS

I got a 2003 G35 Coupe.. so of course mine didn't come with a TPMS.. so I ordered this from Tirerack.com... http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/orange/tpms.jsp... supposively they use this system on some int'l race cars and whatnot...

and I also ordered a full set of Yokohama AVID W4S tires.. and I've got an appointment for a full custom alignment..since my car's dropped on some Tein S.tech's... I can't wait!!

What you guys think of the Orange TPMS?? Has anyone tried it?? or am I gonna be a guinea pig?? lol

i've looked into it, it seems like a neat system, more tuner friendly than the Bosch version TR sells as well. i think OEM tpms is worthless and I would rather a system like the orange type instead...or nothing at all would be cool too.

With OEM you don't know you have a low/flat tire until 40 miles or so of continuous driving and then it resets when you turn the car off & on. It's garbage.

It's great having a TPMS, but the stock one sucks... you only know when you need to fill up, and you can't really keep tabs on your tires with it.

let me know what you think of it. I have one sitting in the garage, still in box. I had the get the tires mounted in a rush and couldnt wait for the TPMS compatible center mount valve stem for multi-piece wheels. I planned on lightweight 1pc wheels (got scammed on some Advans here) or some TE37s, or I would have had the sensor mounts already on order. Anyway, it looks quality. I cant wait to use it some day.

pretty nice.

As everyone stated already OEM suck *****.

I have not had them for almost a year now and my light don't even go on.

Let us know how accurate are these.

Alright.. I got my TPMS and my new Yoko Avid W4S tires mounted... man i love the TPMS! The display is currently mounted to the left of the steering wheel right above the AC vent (comes with some velcro). Looks pretty good there.

Ok on to the short initial review.

It's pretty darn accurate... I would measure all my tires with a hand gauge then check the TPMS and it's right on the money! I would drive for about 20-30 miles or so then check it again.. and I did this a couple times and it was only off about 1psi.. which the package does state the tpms could be off +/- 1psi... So far I like it alot. I can see all 4 of the tire pressures at once. It can be changed from psi to bar to kPa. And I can see all 4 of the tire temps at the same time which can be changed from celsius or fahrenheit. The unit does allow you to change the low and high warning signals, if your pressures low or too high. But I just left the manufacturers setting for now, which i believe is 26psi for the low warning and 50psi for the high warning, I don't have the literature in front of me, so I'll check this again. I'll decide what I want to set it at later.

I also played with how fast it can read changes in pressure. So I decided to drop the pressure on the drivers side rear wheel where I can still see the display with my door open. The manufacturer states on initial start up it'll take about 30 seconds to get all four readings. Then it continues to read it every 3 seconds. So after this test, I would say that the manufacturers claim is pretty accurate. I dropped the pressure and notice the TPMS reading for that particular tire dropped within seconds.

And its a very easy install as far as the TPMS goes. Just mount the valve stems to the wheels. Then screw in the sensors. Then just plug the display in your cigarette lighter or socket with the supplied cable and your done!

Only downfall I see is the display can't change colors.. Its blue and green with big numbers.. but hey it was only $179.. so I'm not complaining...it's actually kind of growing on me lol

btw, these tires are awesome so far.. very quiet.. very smooth... looks like its gonna have very good treadwear (its rated at 400) but i havent really pushed them and i havent drove them in the rain yet to comment on that.. but i think theyre gonna be awesome in those departments too.

hey, dont forget to watch your temps too. Temps differentials can tell you if your alignment is dead on or not. It can also tell you when youre driving hard enough to increase tire wear or harden your tires. I was using the Smartire system on my BFG 18's (since moved to my wife's pathfinder, the huge sensors made balancing a bish on 19s) and found that I could heat them up excessively on certain off ramps. I would easily hit 135F+. Anything over that for long periods of time (like AutoX) will create much faster than expected tire wear for a BFG KDW2. Other tires may not be as sensitive, but almost all UHP summer tires will harden if overtemped too often. Kinda of a neat way to squeeze some extra mileage out of your $$$ tires by knowing how hot they are getting and deciding if its worth pushing them. Pretty sure the Orange system has the same feature.

Yea I'm kind of new to the tire temperature thing.. so that information's good to know...

and yes.. the Orange system is capable of reading tire temps in both celsius or fahrenheit... and it's able to read all 4 tire temps simultaneously.. then it reports it to the display unit every 3 seconds just like the tire pressure...

the only thing I see is that the unit is accurate up to +/-4 degrees... is that a pretty good reading? or no??

oh also... whats 'somewhat normal' tire operating temperature for the tires I have?? and what's too hot?? and whats too cold?? Like I said.. I'm a newbie when it comes to this lol

The tires I have are Yokohama AVID W4S Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires, W rated, 400 Treadwear, Traction AA, Temperature A

Thanks for any input.

as I recall, and it will depend on many environmental variables, I usually saw +10-15F over ambient temps. when I started seeing +30-40F, I knew I was really pushing the tires

As I know, normal operating temp is about 0-50 deg C. It should be +/- 2 deg C. If out of that range, it might be over +/- 2 to 4 deg C. Just for ref, my experience.
