255's in FRONT?

Hi, I have the opp to get some new tires 255/35/19 MICHELIN PILOT XGT Z4 and 275/30/19 MICHELIN PILOT XGT Z4 for a good price...my question is, what are the disadvantages of running that size tire in the front? I need responses ASAP as I need to make a decision very soon (today).

2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Re: 255's in FRONT?

Why don't you go 455 in the front? So you don't have to turn and just go straight. LOL

I guess as long as its not rubbing when u turn you just get more contact...granted i only went up to a 245 in the front and a 275 rear...

Re: 255's in FRONT?

I haven't done it (just yet) but I have purchased 255/35/20 and 285/30/20 tires for my 20x9.5/20x10.5 wheels that are due in sometime this year :p

If I beat you to it, I'll let you know how it is.

Re: 255's in FRONT?

As far as I know there is no downside as long as you dont rub when you go wheel lock to wheel lock. You will get less understeer and steering might be more responsive. Your power steering pump would be working a little harder turning larger tires, so if you are going to do a lot of road racing you might need the bigger power steering cooler.

The 255's should be fine but I have to question the 275/30's in the rear. This will actually have a smaller diameter than the fronts. This might affect your vdc.

Re: 255's in FRONT?

My experience with running substantially larger than stock tires in front was less than ideal.
The progressive turn-in was traded for a much more abrupt transitional response. In other words, you would turn in, nothing would happen, then all of a sudden, the car would lurch in the direction the wheel was turned.
Steering wheel effort was increased as well, so I assume it would also be putting more strain on your power steering pump.

Re: 255's in FRONT?

255/35 front and 275/35 rear is actually the best setup to keep the stagger as close to stock as possible...

Re: 255's in FRONT?

Sorry Randy,

But hey, you got your rims though. I would think with that wide of a tire up front, you would not want to lower it. I have 245 in the front and I lowered with tein S-tech I get a slight rub doing a u turn or cornering hard.
