How much to program TPMS?
How much to program TPMS?
So, I thought I would be slick and buy a set of TPMS before buying new wheels so once the stocks were removed, they wouldn't have to be broken down for TPMS removal.
I thought I read somewhere the wheel shops could program the sensors for me. Now it sounds like I need to have Infiniti do it. At this point, if i'm going to pay for programming, I might as well have Discount Tire remove my existing TPMS and install them on the new wheels. Your educated thoughts????

I just have them swap mine back and forth, from my summer and winter tires. I don't think it costs that much. They do a "rebuild kit" but it's probably $5 a tire or something.
Here's a better idea:
I learned from experience that you don't need to dismount the tires to remove TPMS. If you know a good shop they should be able to just remove one bead, take out the TPMS, then install plain old valve stems in there. They shouldn't charge you more than the cost of the valve stems.
I ended up selling the "just-in-case" extra set I bought when my mechanic told me I wouldn't need them because he could easily do the swap.
If you do decide to swap sets, price will vary depending upon where you live. Nissan dealerships have the same computer equipment necessary to reprogram, and may be cheaper. When I was getting quotes from Infiniti dealerships in the DC area, they were saying $50 for a reprogram. Fortunately I know a guy who works at a Nissan dealership so if I did end up having to get my TPMS reprogrammed, it would have been free of charge.
